I have a factory diagram for the electronic SM6...some of it may be the same (they are from the same era). I'm not that familiar with the SM11 box.

    Here's what I have:

I'm a Mallory dealer and mag service center...I'll see what I can get for you. Even though those old things are no longer supported, they oughta have a schematic laying around somewhere.

    Help me out.
    What is a SM XI?

Is their a way to make my SM IV's have smoother more steady ignition timing? like a crank trigger or ?

SM XI = Super Mag 11 (electronic)
SM VI = Super Mag 6 (electronic)
SM IV = Super Mag 4 (points)

The 6 through 11 are the old electronically triggered Super Mags from the 1980's. There were a few electronically triggered SM 5's around as well. The power transistors were not that great back then and the boxes ate themselves up frequently. They were discontinued long ago but there are still a few floating around out there.

About your timing...most mags (that aren't crank triggered) are very shakey at low RPM. If you checking timing at an idle, it'll be all over the place. That's because as the mag spins, it resists turning and then grabs and pulls hard 8 times per revolution. All the slack and back lash is whipping things back and forth. It should smooth out as the RPM increases. By 5000 RPM, it should be very smooth.

    Mr. Grump,

Do you have the control box in the large black housing with external 9V batteries or the smaller box with the 12v rechargeable external battery?
