Looking for information on Alan Johnson’s Olds Stage 4? I have found a motor that has Stage 4 heads on it and I’m not sure about these heads. I know (I think) Alan Johnson design them and Total Flow makes them also. Is one better then the other? What about parts for this motor? Are they hard to come bye? What kind of HP will they make with a K11 20 over? Would it be better to go with a Dart Big Chief type head or a 481X? Looking for a wedge combo that will not kill parts all the time. Any suggestions will help. Thanks a lot!

There are many variations on AJ wedge heads.
Is yours offset rocker, twin plug?

Or 2 x 7/16 stud holding in the exhaust rocker stands with straight rocker?

    Or neith of the above

The heads are single plug. The rockers I'm not real sure of. The rockers where on a single shaft and look to be offset, unlike a Big Chief where you have 4 stands for each head. Does this help any?

Yes they are An Alan Johnson design. The heads are now made at total flow if you want. They are the same head but I'd say the total flow are better as they are new. Parts are not hard to come by as AJ still makes parts for them. I'm pretty sure that AJ offered these heads in billet and cast, these would definitly be better than a big chief head if they were the billet version. The 481 x head came after the stg IV olds and does have better geometry and the ability to pull a head without removing the intake manifold. Have good valve cover off pics of the stg IV olds AJ head if your interested. We have a set and run well with them but would definitely upgrade to the 481x design if the money was right. ;)

I Did Not Think That The 481x Was Interchangable With The Aj Olds Heads (different Bolt Pattern)????
