acetone

say a guy wanted to run some acetone in his methanol.about how much would be right?

 

i guess it would depend on how much of what you are mixing with your alcohol

 

oh,say just methanol and some lube.

 

fuel mixing

this may seem mean spirited, sobe it. I sell VPfuels. if you are trying to get alittle more performance try using m-5. are you trying to beat some fuel rule? if you are not smart enough to tune for performance, dont try being a chemist. tune for the combination you have, you'll be alot happier. otherwise you could blow it up in staging lanes! its happened.

 

Mark, 30 years ago I tried mixing my own fuel. I was in the military then and had access to some pretty exotic stuff. One of the ingredients actually said "DO NOT Shake" I haven't done anything that dumb since- well maybe. Dave Germain

 

I prefer to stir my alcohol. thats with an ice cube mind you. any crown left dave?

 

Acetone is a drying agent, it wont work in alky unless you mix in some kind of lube, then you'll get caught, back in the day it was used as an octane booster for gas, till they found out it's also a poison.

 

Here is a little hint, if you want to experiment with home brewed fuel. Always add an ester like amyl acetate to be sure the components stay mixed.

 

I thought Acetone also reduced surface tension of fuels, which would thus give better atomization?

I beleive that is the Deal?Back in the Early 80's when i was MORE Stupid than Now?I ran a 500"Injected Alky Motor with 2-600HP Top Gun Nitrous Systems on Gas.I used the Acetone for a mixing Agent for the Alky,and Gas to Mix.....?Dont realy know what the Big deal was?i TOOK ALL OF THAT junk OFF AND BUT ON A 10-71,Went to a 433" Motor,and picked up a 1/2 a second>!

are you a pro stock racer?

over the years many guys have mixed different things with there fuel. most dont know how much is a help (or not). tolulene was a favorite, but what to mix? 1gallon per? there is ALOT of good fuel available. and the price aint bad. I wont say what it was but I know of fuel blowing up in staging. I guess it didnt like the heat Im sure most will agree that no matter what type car you run, just tune it or build a better combination. Last is you dont want to get caught at a regulated race with it.

 

Mark, Just let me know when you are coming over, I will have the crown when you get here. I got some single barrel Jack Daniels. That is some fuel that would be criminal to mix. Dave Germain

 

I have seen peole mix xylene with methanol. I personal just run it as bought.
