I have a bryant crank 4.50 with a 3/4 inch crack in the #2 rod journal radius. I was running this in my blown alcohol motor. Is it fixable or junk? Comments please.

fix it and sell it to someone with a street rod or someone that isn't going to make a bunch of power.

Cracks in the radius usually can't be repaired. Welding a journal is like most other welding job, you need to remove the crack first, not just weld over it, and you can't grind down in the radius, as the crack is heading away from the journal. However most supercharged cranks start to show cracks fairly soon, due to torsional twist, and it really is a judgement call when to scrap them. (Risk vs. reward)

We had the boys at RO-DY cranks in Plymouth Michigan fix our cranks which had cracks in the radius of the trows. One had a crack 1/2" deep in the 5/6 throw and it was 1" long at the surface. They ground it out until it disappeared, welded it up, rough&finish ground and then shook it. It looks great after 15 runs at over 10k. If you have the knowledge and can do it right, it can be done. Somebody poured it to begin with; forged it; ground it. Speaking theoretically---you could cut it in half and put two halves together if they were the right critical temp, the weld was perfect and the heat treat (whether cryo or metallax) was done right. God didn't make it, man did. Man can then figure out how to fix it. We're happy with our results.
