I have a 439 BB Chevy stack injected on Alky. Blew a headgasket but also did a little damage to one of the heads (steel heads), between two cyl. there appears to be a valley burned/melted between the two cly. Questions are (1.) what may have caused this and (2.) would this be something repairable by a local machine shop, welded/filled then shaved ? Thanks

When you blew the head gasket a lot of heat (fire) pass through the hole created by the missing part of the gasket and acted like a torch , burning head casting . The most common cause of the gasket faillure is pre-ignition
; too lean mixture , wrong timing , etc....
Can be easily repaired by welding and resurface it at your local head shop.

o-ring and copper head gaskets are the way to go on alcohol injected iron heads.
