J E Pistons FYI

In case you dont know Ed is no longer with them, as i orderd pistons again not asking for Ed and not asking price this time
$104 ea, give me a break
what a joke, this co is going to hell in a hurry
unless you buy $10,000.00 a year you cant get better pricing now

 

Anybody know where Ed went? Did he go to a different company or retire?

 

I've known Ed for a long time. I will call him at home and let everybody know where he is. I also worked at JE for almost 9 years. I can tell you first hand, it's going to hell in a hurry. I've been gone for almost 2 years now and I don't miss it. You can thank the price to the sales manager. He doesn't have the first clue about this industry.

We ran JE pistons in the first 2 versions of our motor, pulled it down for routine maint and the piston skirts looked so bad we replaced them all. Year or so later, dropped exhaust valve, had hole in 1 piston (not pistons fault) but all showed the same scuffing as before. Replaced them all again, but this time switched to Ross, pulled down for routine maint, perfect, looked as good as when installed, 100 alky burning runs later, so now I'm a Ross piston beleiver. Same tune-up, rpm range, oil, everything the same, if anything ran it harder with the Ross' than with the JE's, actually got to reuse them !!

 

i ran J&E pistons in my motors for the last few years and love them. brad anderson sells J&E's as well.

 

Hey Bruce, I am not surprised that some combinations work with their piston, if everybody got the same results as we did, they wouldn't sell any at all. We run a BBC injected on alky, no blower, and a cast iron block. I can only speak from MY experience with their product.

 

I never said anything bad about their pistons
just when the boxes arrive i find they went up in price (by a huge amount)
i had no one to contact about it and was giving very little reason for such a huge increase other than Ed did what he wanted and that was why he was not there now...basiclly Ed's gone you're screwed
if they werent "custom" i would have sent them back and ate the restocking charge and bought elsewhere...

all i am saying is check the price before you order and if it is ok still do your business if it is to high go some where else

 

I've had scuffing issues with J/E as well on the skirts.

This is a no-nonsense satement about ALL the piston manufacturers.

To be competitive they have to all have similiar equpment to produce their product.

There's probably no more than three generally usable piston alloys whether you're McLaren, Hendrick, or John Force racing. Forget about metal matrix and berillyum(sp?)- not Drag racing necessary-Greg Anderson might disagree.

None produce their own forgings.

The more information you give to the piston DESIGNER at the respective vendor, the better product you'll probably receive.

IMHOP, stick with whom you have the best rapport and confidence.

Bore your blocks

Fit Your rings

Select your oil

Machine and assemble your engine

Set timing and mixture

Drive your racer

 

Norm; that's true; BUT, they can experiment with you as the victim. We had one give us stuff with .039 of cam to see how it reacted. They then charged us for more plus the new sleeves cause the old ones were welded to the pistons. To my knowledge the owner of that company still thinks it's funny because the picture we sent with his piston box stuffed in the toilet is apparently still on the corkboard behind his desk. (we got proof from inside that it was an experiment)

i agree with you 100%. i said something long ago when people claimed screwblowers destroyed parts. i stated that blowers don't hurt parts............ tune-ups hurt parts

 

Piston manufacturers may not create or solve problems with tune ups, however, the order of operations in machining can create different issues including unintentional egg shaping of the piston.

Bob, can't agree with you more about MFRS experimenting-even on their own racecars like when Moe Mills (ROSS) experimented with piston coating on the MOB Fuel Altered-which he partially owned.

Somewhere there's a video of the car leaving the line with two greenish gray streaks of blow- by exiting the back of the Fiat out of the puke tank. No ring clearance!

Hey Ed, nice to hear from you. You may not be able to say anything, understandably so, but I can. JE used to be a good place to work, for the most part. Everybody liked each other and we had a good time working there. I can honestly say, we were by the racer, for the racer. They've gotten rid of alot of good people, people who cared and did what it took to get things done. Now all they're interested in is the dollar and pissing off customers.
