Lenco input pick up

    Hi Guys

    What is the best way to read input shaft speed on my Lenco??

    Does anyone make a collar for the input shaft?? It looks as though there is enough room there if I space out the candlestick about 10mm.

    Is the sensor going to live inside the clutch can???

    Is there an easy way to do this??

    Appreciate the help.

    I am not sure but I thought someone made a candle stick that had a sensor mount in it .

    Input Sensor

    talk to Ron at Racepak. they make a special candle stick set up and can modify your input shaft with a magnetic to trigger the sensor

    Call Matt at Lenco, I know they have them, I use one! About your question of the sensor "living" in that enviroment, we have had problems, Try to keep things clean and air gap adjusted between shaft and pick-up and good luck!

    Bought our candlestick through Atchison racing, they're the Canadian dealer for Lenco. Make sure you tie strap that cord from the sensor tightly, otherwise the clutch will suck the cord in. We put one in this year and haven't had a problem with it.

    If you decide to use a magnet in the shaft, you're going to have to drill the hole with a carbide drill bit - very carefully - but it can be done. We drilled the hole for the magnet in ours and a couple other teams up here, just be sure you don't break that bit in there or you'll be sorry lol.

    As a note here. You need to be careful as to what type of pickup you use. Most pickups require that the magnets inserted in the input shaft alternate in polarity. If you use two magnets 180* out then one needs "N" up and the other needs "S" up.If you use four magnets then they would go N, S, N, S. You can check what you already have in the shaft by using a compass and see which way the needle points as you turn the shaft on a bench. Remember opposites attract.

    If you are installing magnets into the holes then let two magnets lock together in your hand. Now mark with a Sharpie the outside sides of each of the two magnets which will be opposite poles and install them both with the marked sides facing out.

    I found it best not to use an epoxy like JB Weld to hold the magnets because it contains metal particles that will cluster on top of the magnets and dry hard. I use a clear two part Locktite epoxy and have never had a problem.

    why would you need to read the input shaft speed and (I assume), the driveshaft speed? Is there slippage?

    For clutch tuning. If you use the driveshaft speed then you have to compute through the gear ratio that the tranny was in. Most data loggers have a feature that uses just engine rpm and driveshaft rpm and can compute the gear ratio and show the clutch slippage but it is hard to really know what is going on. With the Lenco input shaft speed sensor you can pictorial show the clutch relationship directly to the engine rpm. It makes it a whole lot easier to tune.

    You read the input shaft speed as a comparison to the driveshaft speed to see clutch slippage, when it locks up, etc, etc.

    just checking

    so if i put one pickup on the imput/candlestick and one on the pinion near the coupler i should be in the ball park , one more question whwre do you run the wire out of the can?......peter

    We just run it out of the bottom vent tube.
