with two and a half events so far this season, the a/fuelers strike back in gainesville....

gallant runs a 5.28 and reichert is right behind with a 5.35. quickest blown car was guy kelly at 5.42.

without a doubt, the air and track were good. we had around 600 corrected during the daytime qualifier.

unfortunately, the race got rained out and leaves us with more questions than answers.

one, could gallant have gone quicker? hard to say. i dont know if he had done any testing on thursday, but, i dont think he could have ran much better on 98. hell, he didnt run that quick on full can. reichert is part of the 5 teen club and was in the mid .30's, while mr 280 gunderson struggled in qualifying.

two, could kelly have went any quicker, or if more top blown cars were there, would someone have ran quicker than 5.42. i dont think i'm going out on a limb to say yes. how much is hard to say. not to discredit kelly and his team, but to give credit, that team is better than 5.42 in those conditions. they may have had a problem they were chasing, missed the tune up, i dont know. 5.30's were certainly attainable by a blown car in those conditions.

will nhra hit the a/fuelers? hard to say.

will the a/fuelers still run well when it gets hot? even harder to say.

as the year goes on, we may very well see the need to 'factor' certain tracks next year, rather than a year long nitro percentage for every track.

I think factoring the altitude not the track could possibly work but the alcohol guys will have to be willing to give something up at higher altitudes in the heat. This would be a pain however for NHRA to monitor each car at different tracks. My guess is they are looking for a much simpler solution however there may not be any easy solutions as I don't think you will ever be able to take two different types of cars with completely different approaches and achive total parity. One or the other will always have a slight advantage. The stage is set for another round of the same bickering and noise making as in the past even though two blown cars were in the finals at Pomona. As for TARA I know there are some good people involved and they need members but I have sent a couple of emails in the past and would have joined but had no reply just as another post refereed to. Myself I am just resigned to go race with whatever the rules are.

I had the same experience with TARA. I asked several questions via E-mail and got no responce at all.

in response to the post we could have gone quicker
than a 42 but no reason to. art had #1 in the
bank and now they have cut that money also!
wouldn't have changed our position on the ladder
    just glad to be there

    Bob and Vitali,

I don't know who you sent an e-mail regarding joining TARA, but I have not received an e-mail from either of you. I am at all D4 races that you both attend and I would have been glad to give you a membership form. As a matter of fact three weeks ago in Houston Bob, I supplied you with some nitro for your test runs. Feel free to come by anytime.

I sure hope NHRA doesn't plan on Changing the TAD rules every couple of races.

"quickest blown car was guy kelly at 5.42."

No offense to Guy Kelly but the top blown cars were not there. I think Hillary or Federlin would have ran a low .30 or maybe a high .20 Federlin ran a .32 @ pomona, so what are we talking about .04ths of a second?

And if Meyers/Boggs were there, they might have run a 5.06. That's just .04. LOL

Never offered a bet, or swore it would happen. Just making the same assumptions Doug was.
I think you better look at Guy Kelley's stats again. He is one of the top blown cars, anywhere. Ronnie and the boys are normally within .01 to .02 of the quickest, if they aren't the quickest blown car at a race.
Gainesville's track was reportedly not as good as Pomona's was in the early part of the run. That hurts a blown car more than an AF/D. because that's where the blown car makes all of it's steam with the transmission. Not enough track, too much clutch, and she'll shake so hard you'll wish you had a fueler.

We're all just sharing opinions here. Arthurs the one showing us the facts. Congratulations, Mr. Gallant on your new personal best. You guys are great.

    Have a good one,
    Marty

MArty is correct. Guy drives one of the top six BADs in the country period. (in no particular order)
    Wells
    Thacker
    Federlin
    Kelly
    Severance
Wills (strange to say that name at the top, But Bucky makes power)

Haley would be but is he done isn't he.

    Darren,
We are not sure how many events we will be able to make this year. We know we will be starting late, and due to not currently having a major sponsor, we probabl will run a limited schedule this year anyway. All I know is that racing is what we love to do, so we'll be at some races, sometime.

    Take care,
    Marty

Hey Marty glad to hear you will still be racing. As far as going fast in Gaineville it was because of the temp and the air that day. You wont see runs like that when it gets warmer and in bad air. Atleast I dont think so but I could be wrong because im just hired help. See ya soon and tell Kim hello and hope to see more of her this year, I know its hard going racing when you have kids home in school.
