NHRA TAD & TAFC Power Rankings
    7/11/05

    TAD
    (Last week's rankings in parenthesis)

    1. Steve Torrence (1) - The hottest car in the country will be back in action this weekend in Joliet. Will Tom Conway's hot rod stay at the top?

    2. Randy Meyer (2) - The Div. 5 Schedule will heat up next month, will be interesting to see how hot this team stays.

    3. Bill Reichert (3) - Ran very strong in Stanton, now gets to play on a national event track like Joliet. Will be tough no doubt.

    4. Ken Perry (4) - Should do very well this weekend in Joliet, car runs very well on good tracks.

    5. Steve Federlin (7) - Recent Woodburn win against a tough field has him moving right up the charts.

    6. Ashley Force (5) - The Western Swing will be the deciding factor on whether this team has made a turnaround from it's early season slump.

    7. Guy Kelly (6) - If anyone in Division 2 gets a chance to race this year, he should make a splash. One of the toughest competitors on a Divisional surface.

    8. Hillary Will (9) - Ran a very impressive 5.37 in the semi's at Woodburn. With national events coming back up on the schedule, her stock should rise.

    9. Brandon Johnson (8) - Looked very strong once again in qualifying, but went out in round one. Still has done well in what is the toughest Division in the country in TAD.

    10. Marty Thacker (10) - Joliet race this weekend gives this team a big opportunity to show they are back and move up the charts.

Just on the outside: Gene Snow, David Wells, Art Gallant, Chris Demke, Duane Shields

    TAFC

    1. Frank Manzo (1) - Will be interesting to see how the battle between Manzo and Newb shakes out in a few weeks when we see them back in action.

    2. Bob Newberry (2) - The next Div. 1 event will be the showdown for the top spot in the TAFC power rankings. Whoever comes out on top will get this site's No. 1 ranking.

    3. Jay Payne (3) - Look for the Valvoline Thunderslug to come out swinging this weekend in Montgomery. While he won't be able to pull off a perfect national record, a strong divisional record may put him back in title contention with Manzo and Newb mixing it up in Div. 1.

    4. Paul Gill (4) - The 'X' factor in Div. 1 TAFC this year. Could we see the Moduline car hit some out of divisionals to make Div. 1 a three-way race?

    5. Steve Gasparrelli (5) - Should stay high in the rankings with strong finishes in the upcoming Western Swing races.

    6. John Weaver (6) - Could move up with strong outings on the Western Swing.

    7. Jackie Stidham (8) - If they took their show on the road, they are in position to make a run for the title.

    8. Brian Hough (7) - Unusual early round exit slides Hough down a spot this week.

    9. Cy Chesterman (9) - Waiting patiently for the schedule to come back around to them.

    10. Dave Ray (10) - This car has the potential to win anywhere it shows up. With some more consistency, they could be deadly.

Just on the outside: Bucky Austin, Jimmy Jones, Dennis Taylor, Bobby Martin, Mick Snyder

DT had pretty dominant performance last weekend in the heart of Division 6. What does he need to do to make the list, run a 5.49 or better two or three times? He had the field by half a tenth, did an engine swap (with help from the division 6 racers) between the semi's and finals, creamed the track record and won the race. No lucky gimmies at all. A wire to wire job.

While I'm on a streak here, I think number one should be the 'Newb. He's having a great year.

    JMHO.

    Randy,

I only have so many spots, and DT's impressive weekend was certainly taken into consideration. He's definitely on a move up the charts. I predict he'll crack into the top ten after Seattle.

Now I know how the guys doing the BCS rankings feel...maybe I need to rework my formula...

Someone has to make you honest! Takes some "sputz" to post a list with all the quality racers out there...especially when you know a lot of them are reading it.

    Say, how 'bout those Angels!

How about "NO" ranking...I wouldn't want to have to race Randy and Larry in the lane next to me.. [IMG]

Yea, and that 5.62 you guys threw on the board at the last points race. Hmmm, I wonder when was the last time someone went that quick at a divisional.

I see a lot of woulda-shoulda-coulda comments on some of the car on the list. How about more comments like "they did, he did, she did, Woz did, DT did?"

    LOL.

    Jay Payne Gainesville 5.625
    Steve Gasparelli Bakersfield 5.626
    Brian Hough Mission 5.629

And Tate is number what on the list? He's run 5.50's this year, runner-up'd in Vegas and is finishing up the Etterman-Branch mobile as we speak from that nasty fire they had. Otherwise he'd be a contender for his division.
