I have just changed from alcohol carbs to a Bird hat injection. We ran the motor for the first time the other day, only let it idle, and the blower seemed to be hot and when you open the throttle blades with the engine off you can hear a crackling sound like excess fuel burning off the rotors.
    Is this normal.

The blower is hot and crackling because there is not enough
fuel going into the blower threw the hat.

Make sure your manifold is flat, also.

Hi I run eight .050nozzles and the barrel valve was set at 60% leak.

We were told by Enderle when consulting with them about which parts to buy from their dealer (Jim Maher and crew of CIFCA), to run larger jets up front than in the rear. This was in the neighborhood of 8 years ago.

Per Enderle the rotors will naturally push the fuel towards the back of the blower due to the twist in the rotors. This is more predominant on a hi-helix than standard helix.

We're running .52s in the front 4, and .40s in the back 4 (10-71, 15" top/bottom opening, standard helix, Buzzard Catcher). We are, of course, also running port nozzles (although I've yet to get brave enough to install a high speed bypass).

Not knowing your engine combination and all pertinent information, it's kinda tough to give advice from my perspective. Maybe some of the more hardcore guys can trouble shoot without it.

It'd tend to think there may be more than one issue...

    1. There's not enough fuel going through the blower, which is a really bad thing to let it get hot (assuming it's on alky).

    2. You're not running vented nozzles on the hat and you have alky running into the hot blower after the motor is shut off.

    3. 1 & 2 above, plus you're not killing the motor via the fuel, which would prevent #2 above.

This is just my thoughts as someone with 'intermediate' experience.
