So which valve is better...stainless or titanium valves??? I run titanium in both exhaust and intake. On the dyno we burnt an exhaust valve which torched the head inbetween the two valves which caused the seat to fall out which caused an explosion in the manifold, throwing a rod, etc, etc. Good stuff. My head guys are saying stainless is better...good to know after the fact. Your guys' opinions???

427 sbf, procharged on alcohol, pro mag 12, port nozzles, 30 degrees of timing, plugs gapped at .016. Broke at 5700 RPM. Was putting 5.9 gpm at that RPM. Had a bad miss under a load...we spent all day trying to figure it out. It made 1150 hp at 5500, but was missing. Replaced plug wires...might have a bad mag?? By the way...who should I send the mag and box to for checking???

The valve was going to burn wether Ti or stainless, disadvantages and advantages for both, for the drag racer it is weight in the valve and then in turn makes your springs work harder. Really depends on the power levels you hope to attain and maintain.
Mine and many others would stay with Ti. Fix the miss problem, sounds like not enough fuel. Blocked nozzle, etc would do that but 5 gallons per minute sounds a little lite for feeding a engine making that much power.
MSD do basic function checks on Mags.

    bummer

Sounds like a rough dyno session. Nobody runs stainless on big hp blown alky. They can't take the heat. The intake valve will tulip/collapse. A really severe turbo or nitro application will run an inconel exhaust valve with Ti intake. I don't see how you could burn an exhaust valve without melting everything first. We have 30% leakage out the headers sometimes on a leakdown and it doesn't matter. That a lot of air getting by.
I don't have any answers on your mag. We went 4.58@158 spinning all the way through first gear but it still puts cylinders out and bangs. The egts are actually falling off and then warming back up.
Weird shit. I'm still coming up with a plan.
    Good luck,
    Mike

On blown alky I have had SS int. valves tulip the head and this increases the installed height which closes the lash up . Lucky we caught it before the big bang on the second run with a BBC . Send it Leahy to get the mag and box checked .

The Ti exh. are for high rpm alcohol engines like they run in TAFC where theyare turning in excess of 10,000 rpm. Check the melting point of Ti valve vs stainless or inconel. It is much lower! So if you can stand the valve weight go with a good stainless or inconel valve. If memory serves me correct I think the Ti valve will melt at around 12oo degrees.

I make a bad mistake on a run two years ago and we ended up with 1450 on egts for a few minutes? Didn't hurt anything ?

egt readings are not the same as cyl. temp although it is called the same by most people.

Sorry, we do a flatbottom sprint boat. We run the same hull in two different classes, ProStock and K..... I pulled the lean race as the ProStock.
