Does anyone use weight scales to setup a funny car chassis? We use them on our suspension cars. If so, do you try and get the weight equal on both tires, or try for a pre-load condition? Thanks in advance.

I worked for victory race cars in the early 90's and we never used scales for setting pre load. After we installed the rear end and front end I beleve the we put a 1/4 " plate under the right front tire and Adjusted the right a-arm. Might want to give Ron Williams a call. I dont have his # but he is in hisperia or victorville ca.

That would make sense, and Strange do an adjustable spindle for changing preloads, although there's an easier way. Yes, I would use scales. Set it even and then go from there. Don't forget to write it down ;-)

Well on all f/c I have worked we ended with a 1/4 to 5/16 pre load on the front spindle. And the car ran great. Yes we scaled the car afterwards and recorded the weights for future use or checks. In a F/c is very easy to change pre-loads like that I a door car its more time consuming and difficult (have done both) but as a reminder if you set all weights equal be prepared for some fancy driving!!

It also depends on how much power you are making. No do not set it up equal as the engine will be to far foward and it will make it harder to drive and hook up on crapy tracks. After setting the front a-arm you then need to put the engine in its place. Again keeping power in mind. My torque is close to 1923 lbs per sq in and the engine is 61 inches from the center of the rear axle to the engine plate. I still need a weight bar when I launch at 5500.
P.S. Rocky. Ill see ya at the chrr. Ill be in the Jeep FC

    Rocky,

We scaled my Monza. It was WAY off when I bought it from Denny. It was actually VERY light on the left front and right rear.

I think I have the figures here at work, I'll go out to the truck at lunch and make sure, if you'd like to give me a call,

Sorry, I meant side to side, not front to rear.
