If you are using the 1/2' studs it is quite likely that you are using the water heads, if so by doing them up too tight will cause stress cracking in some parts of the casting, I used too do 120lbs and found stress cracks around the boss of the stud hole.

This is the reply I got from Tom at KB Race Engines in regards to the correct torquing and sequence.

    Cheers Ray,

For 1/2" studs you should end up with 100-105 for the top row, 85-95 for the bottom row, and the inner head studs should be 40-50 (45) with the adapter wrench.

Start: top row 40, bottom row 25, inner snug. Next: top row 60, bottom row 45, inner snug. Then: top row 80, bottom row 65, inner snug. Continue this pattern until you reach final torque. Work from inside out.

Studs into the block at 29 ft./lbs. with 5-30 Mobil 1 on the threads. 125 ft./lbs. when torqueing the heads down, again with 5-30 Mobil 1 or never seize lightly applied if you prefer. Fred Mandolini turned us on to the fact that you start torqueing from the outside in rather than inside out. Stopped our gasket walking and pushout when our setup wasn't right on. Don't know why, it just works, and I always trust the master.
