    How do I get the axle out of a 9.5" Strange Top Loader? I took off both drive hubs so I could change the axle seals but I can't get the axle out. I am hoping that taking the axle out won't disturb the preload and back lash on the gear set. I got the exploded drawing from Strange but it isn't much help. Is there a manual for the care and feeding of one of these rearends?

    Let me know what you find out!

    Hey Dave, Please let me in on what you find out. I just bought one this month and the new gear just got here this week and any info on these 9.5" top loader would be very appreciated. or anybody else for that matter.
    I guess it's find of intimidating from the front loader I'm used to. But being a tight as I am I will do every thing myself, Hence the word "Self Taught"
    Thanks Guys and don't feel like your all alone out there Dave with those question.

    Dave;
    You have to push the axle out wth a swing press and a block of wood lol. make sure you keep all your shims in order . also back off the set screws on the side bearing holders, they are small but wll damage the bearings if not backed off .
    hope this helps

    I got it. I have the manual from Strange and their tool kit is on the way. I tried hammering the axle out but no go. I called the king of alcohol funny cars and he filled me in. You have to take the rear end out of the car and pull one of the mounting plates. Once the plate is off and the set screw that holds the bearing sleeve in place is out you can push the axle out that side. I was told by several people to pull the drive hubs and you can hammer the axle out-NOT. The splines on the center of the axle are bigger then the spool bearings so at least one of them has to be removed to pull the axle. By the way the manual isn't much help either- at least not for a tard like myself who needs things spelled out. Now that I have it apart it doesn't seem so tough.-Duhhhhhh. Dave Germain

    hey guys I just did mine..it is very simple...look at it, it's not that hard, but you must have the tools to do it. also when you take the cover off on the left and on the right in the center there is a hole on both sides down in that hole is an allen set screw you must loosen it first...don't forget them, with the strange tools you can push the axel out. and yes that seemed to be the bitch of the 9 1/2 in. job. good luck guys Dave Lowe

    Once I figure out how to change a ring and pinion I will be in great shape. I paid some big bucks to have a set changed at a national event once, I could afford two sets of gears for what I was charged to change and set that set up and I provided the gears. That left a hole in my wallet. Dave
