have you ever noticed the difference in the placement of egt's on a nitro car compared to an alky car? racepac requires 2 inches from the flange for alky, and it looks like 4-6 inches for nitro. evedently the nitro causes a false reading close to the flange which is what you are seeing. bill barrett also told me once that an extremely rich motor will cause false readings on the egt's because the extra fuel is burning in the header tubes. i learned to read the parts, such as plugs and bearings before the computer. i have had readings up as high as 1400 on alky but hardly any heat on the plugs. i leaned the motor which put heat in the plugs and actually lowered the egt temp. eventually the temps and plug readings matched. but like i said. read the parts. they don't lie.

You didn't say if you are running bigger nozzels & main jet with the nitro, nitro is an oxagin bearing fuel so if you don't change the fuel system you will be lean, also you might not have enough timming, and are fireing the fuel out the ex pipe and getting a false reading because thats were the egt probes are. I saw this happen just this last week end, but what do i know.

bruce i agree with you....i read the parts after every run after i changed for nitro mix.....and as i said....no heat on plugs, pistons or cylinders....and about the distance....this could be a great deal really....i didnt changed the distance......and yes a lot of fuel is been burned inside the headers....with alky its was a problem cause of chrome.....now i gave-up to mantain the good look.....

timming with the egt distance would produce this false reading.....but i dont feel comfortable with too much timming with this block....now we are with 36deg for 30% and some steps for more fuel...i know i can put something like 40-42 for 30% but i think something will not hold the engine together...:(

Nitro burns a lot slower than alcohol. Without the added timing it's probably still burning going out the exhaust. I'd look at that first guess.

What will happen if your EGT Probes are closer than 2"?
