I run a Mallory supermag 5 and have just installed an Autometer 6601 Tacho.
according to Autometer directions, have wired it using the Autometer magneto signal convertor, but Tacho still doesnt work properly.
OK at idle, but doesnt read accurate RPM above 3000.
Recall function also seems a bit erratic.
Anyone got any tips how to use a Tacho with a Mag?
    Thanks
    Dave

What type of plug wires are you using for this application? Try to isolate the wires as far away from any ignition parts that you can. The tach is picking up rf noise from someplace. If you have any other questions I can be eamailed at marc_erickson@autometer.com

Gguy is right... change your plug wires. A lot of guys think you have to run solid wires with a Mallory (i used to) But if you want anything besides the mag to work you need to be running a suppression type wires. Taylor Thundervolts are awesome and so are MSD's... Run to run there is absolutely no difference. best of luck... Sean

We run a hopped up SM-IV, a racepak data system and a Accel monster tech. We drive the tech with a mechanical tech generator off the distributor base.
At first we used the solid wires and had a lot of problems with RF getting into everything and tried shielding all our wiring but still seen some RF getting into our data stream so we tried the MSD 8.5mm wires and have been very happy with the results now for the past 6 months or so.

    had same problem

i used moroso stainless solid wires....best for this kind of mag BUT nothing else worked....even putting all eletronics far away from any ignition source.....then a simple change of wires to msd 8.5 from my msd promag......and solved....all workds with no interference at all, msd tach converter is next to magneto now, acquisition system and pyros go thru msd cables....!!!
