    nascar

i live in the middle of nascar - charlotte nc - their saying goes its not cheating unless you get caught. nascar has gotten better at catching cheating since they hired gary nelson - could it be that he "pushed the rules" when he was a crew chief? what better way to enforce the rules than to employ the people who know how to avoid the rules? there are several good books and articles on the history of nascar cheating. it makes good reading and will open one'e eyes to why they have certain rules in their sport. i also believe that the past cheating is also what limits their future development - for example they are so afraid of electronics that efi and the fear of illegal using it is not enforceable thus they don't allow its use - when is the last time anyone saw a production gm, ford, crysler or toyota with a non electric carb? just imagine this - take the best cheater drag racing has and make him/her the tech director - would our sport have the same headlines that nascar has recently produced?

No way, NHRA would never alow there King's and or Queen's to get bad press, it would make the NHRA look bad, and send it back to a time when Drag Racing were bad words.

However, should that happen, ( that you get caught cheating ) then every one in the class at that race should beat the $ # it out of you. ;)

Does anyone know what the "fuel additive" was that they found in Waltrip's Toyota?

I heard it was a jet fuel mixture.

    Top Alcohol Stock Cars?

The only thing that would make sense is an additive that they use in jet fuel called Prist. It's a fuel system icing inhibitor that contains ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, or anhydrous isopropyl alcohol, and is suppose to lower the freezing point of any water that may be suspended in jet fuel to prevent flameout during those high altitude flights. My guess is that they may have used this additive to lower the temp of the fuel as it is atomized, therefore making the fuel/air mixture dense, making more power. A chemical intercooler, if you will.

I wonder what would happen if you coated the blower impellers with sterno?

    nascar cheating

sometimes nascar will not tell on themselves on cheating - for example several years ago a top team was consistantly getting 3 to 4 more laps per fuel load than all other teams. the nascar tech folks checked the car over and over for things such as oversized fuel lines (they frown of #20 gas lines), over sized fuel filters (one team was running a filter than had a 1 gallon capacity) and the old standard - fuel cells that were overinflated with air to expand it's size. much to nascar's dismay they could not figure out how this one team was getting such better fuel milage. once the team won several "fuel milage races" their economy dramatically dropped off back to the other teams. several races later the story got out - the team had made a special series of fuel dump cans that had double walls which they packed with dry ice before the race. their biggest problem was to hide where the dry ice vented without leaving an evidence trail. once they vented the dry ice down to the ground and the fumes were not obvious the game began. they were able to pack the fuel cell with super cold fuel and by what i was told they could put 23.5 gallons into a 21 gallon fuel cell. needless to say nascar wasn't going to report this little trick to make their tech folks look silly. how does this apply to drag racing you might ask - the simpler the cheating sometimes the tech people will and do not report it to keep themselves from looking silly!

One team was running their cars on 7 cylinders for the restrictor plate tracks; using the 8th cylinder as an air pump.
