Fuel Cell Location

    I need help on fuel cell location. This is actually for a pulling tractor, not a race car, but the application would be similar as I use a blown alcohol motor. We have always run an aluminum tank placed higher than the pump that will gravity feed the pump, but I'm looking at changing the chassis configuration and putting a fuel cell down in the chassis. The question would be will an Enderle pump pick up fuel if the top of the fuel cell were about 6" below pump centerline? The fuel line itself will be below the fuel cell top, so it will only need to pick up that 6" in the line going straight down. What are anyones thoughts?

    As long as the fuel cell is in front of the fuel pump you will have no problem at all.
    Call enderle they will tell you the same thing.
    Enderle fuel pumps will pump up hill 2 feet with no problem.
    We know this because we have been doing it for years.
    You will need to prime the system to start it as with all
    mech. fuel pumps.

    i think as long as the tank is mounted forward of the engine (pump), you should be ok. i have seen/worked on dragsters where the tank outlet is lower than the pump inlet and they work fine. make sure you have a large enough tank vent.

    Priming & Location

    I'm assuming that everyone is saying to make sure that the tank is in front of the pump because of the G forces during acceleration in drag racing. In the case of tractor pulling, acceleration is minimal so I would think the location of the fuel cell would not matter. Am I correct? FYI - In our class, we could not put the fuel in front anyway, as we literally have the front of the pump within 1/4" of our allowed maximum length. Priming the pump was also mentioned. I've never had to do that to get fuel as our tank has always been higher than the pump and kept the pump "primed". What would be the steps to prime the pump as mentioned? Thanks Again for all the help...

    Up, Up, and Away!

    LOL ... Been there, done that .... That's why the motor is going all the way out and the fuel tank is coming back behind the motor! It's a nice ride with the front end sky high and riding the wheelie bars, but it will kill some of your distance ... and when you're running with the big dogs, you need every inch you can get!

    All of the rear engine mudracers I have ever seen runs the fuel cells behind the motor because there is no room (limited to 150" wheelbase max). I have never heard of any problems
