tie down race car

    so many ways to tie down a dragster in your trailer. ive heard of a top fuel team putting a stand under the frame and letting out the air in the slicks then tie it down?? let's hear what all you guy's do it? looking for new ways???Dave

    with our old alky dragster we used a chassis-saver under the middle of the chassis to stop it flexing while transporting

    Scotty at S&W hates chassis savers that are soft/pneumatic/or not positive. Last five cars we have used wood blocks 12 x 12 x height of cross tube as setting in the trailer. (We notch the block to fit the width and the tube so it stays in place cross country). Front tires tied down secure and straight. Rears are put to ten psi and equal rollout and then strapped down to dent the tires 1/2 inch at least. Wood block is under the drivers seat crossbar. Never bent or wekened any of the cars. Call S&W and talk to Scott Weney. He's straight arrow.

    no chassis savers!

    Scott is smart !
    If you want to learn, ride in the trailer for 25 miles, it'll scare the hell out of you! (I have).
    1. never use rear tire straps unless you can KEEP 35 psi in your tires for the entire trip.
    2. build a wood block with a 1" thick hard rubber pad screwed on top that goes under the motorplate/bellhousing area.
    3. "X" strap the rear of the chassis down after installing #2.
    4. never use front wheel chocks or tie the front wheels in any way. (Today's lesson: When two points get an arch between them, the distance gets "SHORTER"! You will workharden the tubing)
    5. strap the chassis from side to side after installing another #2 under the foot box. Correctly done the front tires should almost spin. This will reverse the sag and help keep the chassis fresh longer.
    I suppose now some shop owners will hate me ?
    I know I've made quite a few bucks fixin' people's junk because they were in a hurry or bought a whoopie cushion!

    tie-in her down

    I have a piece of wood that just fits under the car with 7 lbs air in the tires and a block that slides under the rear end then I strap the rear tires down which holds it tight against both blocks (first block is located at front motor plate directly under the vertical brace) the front of the car rolls into a loop I have fastened into the floor I do not solidly fasten the front. The car stays put no matter what you do to the trailer....I would assume it would stay put even if the trailer was on its roof but do not want to test that theory. I have towed the same car all around the east coast for 17 years without the first tube breaking or the first weld cracking.
