I am switching from a wet sump setup on my KB Olds to a dry sump. Currently running a whipple @ 60 over w/ cam driven fuel pump & pioneer front distributor drive. I have an RCD crank support with a mandrel I was using to drive a vacuum pump, so I'm thinking that may be the best way to go to drive the oil pump. Can anyone help me out with best way to drive the pump, which pump works for this application, and tricks or traps I need to look out for?? Starting from scratch on this so I'm open to suggestions.

Most i've seen use a mandrel out of the front of the crank support. The trend seems to be towards multistage prostock style pumps that actually scavenge oil during the run. The drysumps that hemi's and 481X's use only have one scavenge stage and require massive oil quantity. I've heard of 4 stage systems using as little as 14qts.
Some guys even pull a vacuum but it doesn't seem to gain much.
I've considered switching to a drysump but i've had decent results with my Titan pump on a KB olds with 15 qts.

I run a KB olds with a dry sump. I run a 4 stage stock car porducts pump and run the fuel pump off the back of it. I made a custom bracket that supports the back of the fuel pump off of the oil pan studs. I use a mandrel off the front to drive it. stefs makes the mandrel and I also run a stefs pan and oil tank. Works great never had a minutes problem. It's only a 10 quart tank and I've never had an oiling problem and my bearings always look perfect. I run a pioneer mag drive just like you talked about. The reason I run the fuel pump off of the back of the dry sump pump is I don't have much room up front. ( it's a pro mod anglia).

Do you have any pictures of that setup running off the back of the fuel pump? I'd be curious to see what that looks like. if so please email to danny@dhump.com Thanks!
