msd 8830

    in the msd single pro-mag installation guide,its showing a msd capacitor 8830,what is this for and is anybody using 1?

    tech help

    When we got our car wired it had one onit . It is put in so if you loose battery power it will keep the MSD hot. We pulled ours off. we were having with it keeping car running after we killed power. May had been wired wrong??? We ran last year with out it and did not have any problem.Have not seen verymany used.

    It also gets rid of voltage spikes.

    Mike ,is that voltage spike i see on my racepak??? Goes away if you smooth the graph?

    What graph do you see it on? Clutch and other RPM sensors occasionally show spikes out of the blue that have nothing to do with voltage.

    The PN 8830 is a capacitor that filters out RFI and voltage spikes. It will also keep a short (5-7 seconds) supply of power after the kill switch is hit. If you have a rev limiter or retard box on your car it is recommended to use this filter.

    The capacitors work but don't use cheap connectors. they will become the weak link.
