Anyone have a good source for NGK R6061-9's?
    Thanks!

Are you having problems finding them? or finding them for a better price?

What makes a R6061 better then an old B9ES? I understand the R for race and different heat ranges, reaches and gasket or taper,,, but I've been told some pretty significant HP gains from reliable dyno guys talking up the R6061.
Does it somehow lengthen the duration or ????

I guess we are all looking for a better price. Part of the $$$ issue is they are each hand assembled and inspected. Good story anyway.
This engine combo really likes these and they are readable.

Ngk Supplies My Team With Spark Plugs, there Rep Told Me That The B9es Was Designed As A Small Engine Plug (lawn Mower) He Told Me To Use Them Only As A Warm Up Plug Not To Race With Them. He Said The Race Plug Will Give Better Performance. Just What I Was Told

    been there, Old guy b.s.

    "I'm just a welder", but............
B9ES were great until the boost went over 30 psi.
Screw blowers and better roots blowers taught anyone willing to learn, a huge amount about spark plugs.
The ground strap on that plug is twice as long (or more), and will get RED hot and stay that way, due to mass, causing detenation.
There are some "cheaper" "same thing" plugs out there, but have an electrode that is half the "wire" size, and will burn off to the porcelain, making you think it's lean, especially when you find the rod bent! Not so..., some experts will say you can't hydraulic an alky motor!
Some brands of plugs are black oxide and are near impossible to read, another major brand has a brite zinc that is also hard to read.
Unfortunately, NGK has changed from a gold cad to another plating that is a little harder to read, but still the best bet overall.
BAE will beat that .com place by a mile. If you want to pay less, find some others for a group buy, they will talk to you if you order more than 500 at a time.

The only purpose of my reply was to help people understand that in the long run, they are not saving money by running the wrong plug. It was to help the ones that are still running them!
Besides, at another buck a plug per run (to the math challenged, that's $8.00), my guess is the cost of damage per run with an inferior plug will be more than that!!!
It's stuff like this that is learned the hard way from someone who tried to do it cheap! It's been 20 years since my own car and I still haven't recovered!

It all depends on how many you want. We just placed an order so if you can e-mail or call me I can see if I can help. doug1320@alliancecom.net or cell 605-351-3404. Doug

Just to add something here since the topic went off and talked about the B9ES. The NGK R5671-9A is a racing plug version of the B9ES. The only major difference is the B9ES is a 13/16 hex and the 5671 is a 5/8 hex. Also, the B9ES and the 5671 are both popular in the Rootes blowers especially in the Outlaw racing. The cost of the 5671 is a lot less than the 6061. Also in the same heat range a direct replacement with a much shorter fatter ground electrode is the Autolite AR 3933. Both the AR3933 and the NGK 5671 are very common in the nitrous Promod racing where the EGTs get to 1500* F.

Something I have always wondered about and maybe someone can explain it to me here is why in a alcohol blown motor is there more danger of heating a ground strap up like a glow plug at a 1100* EGT than with a nitrous motor at 1500*. I know that the EGTs are read outside the cylinder and with the massive amount of timing retard on a nitrous motor the flame is moved out of the motor but is the internal cylinder temperature of a blown alcohol motor higher than a three stage nitrous motor? Since one can read the blue line on the ground strap which is really the anealing point of the metal on both the alcohol and the nitrous motor this would indicate that the internal cylinder temperatures are the same if the blue line is in the same position.

    Mike,
Maybe the Nitrous motor at 1500 deg at the egt actually has a richer fuel mixture than the alcohol motor at 1100 deg reading at the egt. Since the egt is not the actual combustion or cyl temp do you think this is possible?

That is what I was saying with the nitrous EGTs. Using 20-25* of retard moves the heat out of the motor into the exhaust and is seen as higher EGTs than with alcohol BUT the annealing point of the metal sparkplug ground strap (the blue line) is the same on nitrous and on alcohol sparkplugs because we adjust the timing to move the blue line where we want it. So it seems to me that the internal combustion chambers temps become the same for both nitrous and alcohol. The 6061 plugs short ground strap allows one to advance the ignition a little more and actually move the blue line back closer to the plug without having the tip glow. I wonder why nitrous racers do not use the 6061 plugs as a safety measure?

    Pressure?

Is pressure a part of the equation? While a gas/nitrous motor may have a hotter exhaust temp, a blown alcohol motor probably creates more pressure in the combustion chamber (compression ratio plus blower boost).
Where is Norm Drazy when you need him?? :)

I once read that nitrous will give u a false egt reading.. it will actually lower it about 300 degrees...what is the popular a/fuel plug????? Mike

    Mike,
    I have an a-fuel dragster and use the R6061-10 & R6061-11 plugs.
We are not able to read any blue line on the plugs. we read how much of the ground strap is melted away! In the past I have tuned the fuel to individual cyls by the cyl temp readings from the egts but will no longer do that. I have noticed that the computer readings do not correlate to the plug readings.
It is much harder to tune an unblown nitro motor than any blown one that I have had any dealings with. I think I have figured out what is going on but had rather not elaborate until it proves out or doesn't prove out.
