It's time to upgrade our weather station. We're looking for a hand-held weather station but not too sure what to get. I know Altronics and Biondo sell some. Are there any other ones out there? Which do most of the alcohol-ics use? Any feedback is most appreciated.

had bad luck with altronics...when something went wrong they didn't wanna help.. so the last call to them was....it's your problem..in the trash it went and got a good used one from foxworth..so all in a nut shell is to stay far away or you might be the next guy to get bit on the butt. I know that Will would prefer this site be all about happiness and without a discouraging word. But I appreciate knowing when a racer has had issues with a part or equipment supplier. I learned a long time ago that if I watched and listened I could avoid making some mistakes that befell others. Thank you Dave Lowe. Thanks, Dave Germain

I'm reasonably sure Altronics quit selling hand held units. I have one from compu-tech that i just bought last year. I really like it, trick is to make sure and keep it out of the sun, and out of the airconditioning. otherwise it takes a long time to stabilize on the correct temp. If I was doing it again i would probably just step up and get the trailer mounted unit with the pager. spend a lot of time packing that thing around in the staging lanes to keep it consisitent. The bonus is the people at computech were very professional to deal with. and they pay contingency.

I have an Altronics hand held also and its been broken for about 3 years. I agree, their customer service leads a lot to be desired. I wont buy anything else from them!

I'm getting that feeling. I looked at the CompuTech units that Clint and Les had mentioned. I'll definitely keep them in mind. I'll talk it over with Victor & Frank and get their feedback. Maybe Santa will leave one under my tree.:p
    Merry Christmas.

I have to admit... my dealings with them have left a bit to be desired.
Why do these companies spend $$'s on advertising, and then ruin the best advert they ever had - word of mouth.

Please don't be offended by this statement...but...What are you guys trying to do? Reinvent the wheel? The comnputech unit is reasonably priced (350 to 450), tons of them out there, and reliable. There are also other stations in the same price range designed to do what we need, with all the corrections printed out. Why buy a true "weather" unit and do all the calculating by hand?
I know 350 to 450 isn't nothing, but is it worth all the agggrevation to save a couple hundred bucks??

I am praising the computech because I have experience with it. I have no experience with the others. I do have experinece with going through all the calculating bs. What a pain in the butt. Especially when a storm comes through, all factors change, you are in line, and now time to make a tuneup change.
