Alu. or Tit. flywheel

    Blown 526 PM hemi engine.

    What do you guys think ? alu. flywheel for ca. $ 850
    or the tit. one for something like $2300 ?

    What your saying is ,You can buy 3 alum. flyweels for the price of 1 tit. take a gess what I would buy,yep and I would buy two of them at one time,so i have a spare, yep ,Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. ;) :D

    Buy it once. I went thru the same thing years ago, now i have all titanium. Aluminum does not take the heat well, but titanium does. Like they say, I wish I knew then what I know now, sure would be $ ahead.

    Titanium Flywheel

    I would think titanium = less rotating weight = more usable hp and torque.

    the titanium is quite a bit heavier than aluminum, but will last 3 times as long. depends on the budget i guess. we run aluminum, but then again we also have no budget........:D

    We run an aluminum flywheel but had problems with it warping from the heat generated by the clutch. We even blackened a main bearing because of it. Teams that we talked to who run titanium switched because of just that, warping problems.

    I stand corrected: :confused: Check my resources again.
    "Commercially pure grades of titanium have ultimate tensile strengths of up to 80,000psi, equal to that of high strength low alloy steels, but are 43% lighter. Titanium is 60% heavier than aluminium, but more than twice as strong as the most commonly used 6061-T6 aluminum alloy. Certain titanium alloys (Beta C, e.g.) achieve tensile strengths of close to 200,000psi. It is fairly hard (although by no means as hard as some grades of heat-treated steel) and can be tricky to machine due to the fact that it will gall if sharp tools and proper cooling methods are not used. Like those made from steel, titanium structures have a fatigue limit which guarantees longevity in some applications".

    Thurston, Thurston,Thurston, when will you learn? Go Lencodrive and all those problems will be of no consequence. Fan cool converter between rounds and go again! Hope your Holidays were flush with new race car parts!
