I've seen it pointed up and down:confused: Which way would cause the least damage? I could see both having pros and cons, just want some thoughts.

On our funny car we tried both ways, but pointing it down did less damage to the body. In a dragster I can see where you might want to point it up.

Adam, This Is What I Was Told, Point It Up Because The Fuel Pump Is Usally On The Front Of The Engine And You Take A Chance Of Blowing The Lines Off The Pump Or Fuel Shutoff. All The Force Is Now Pointed The Way The The Deflector Is Pointed,so If It's Pointed Up The Blower Pulley And Body Take The Force, which Would Be Alot Better Than A Giant Fireball Hope This Helps You.

I know a guy that did just that, he blew the line off his pump when the panel went. The fire destroyed the car. I would highly recommend pointing it up.

We have a Nostalgia Nitro Funny. We had the hood up, and it took out the body.. Had it down, it it just poped the body panel as designed.

I don't route fuel lines near the burst panel, so this is not an issue for us. I reccomend down!

If you want pics of a FC Body with it pointed up, let me know... I have them, I also have pics of what happens when it is pointing down....

Only Experience I Have Is On Door Cars, But One I Saw Down Popped And Destroyed The Entire Front End. If A Line Or Even A Tank Vent Is Close To It You Can Imagine The Fire Scenario.
Up And With A Decent Amount Clearance On The Body Is My Vote

You can point it any way you want, but 99% of the PRO Cars point it down. It is pops a fuel line, you have a poorly constructed line. The "flame front" is quick, and does not "burn" everything, just the plug wires if they are in the way. We tie ours above the hood to prevent them from getting burnt.

    open?

in a funny car wouldn't it be better to just leave the panel deflectors off? The hood panel absorbs most of the shock, but if you have it pointed up, it's going to focus on one spot, most likely behind the hood panel. the body should be constructed in the rear where the rear panel will go through the stove pipe.
