I have seen on here recently how much oil in a hemi, but a search came up with nothing. So here it is again.
I have a tfx, aj headed hemi with a 8 qt dan olson funny car pan. I have 1qt in the system 1 filter, 3 qts in the accusump. How much in the motor? I remember hearing any where from 12 to 16 qts. I put 10 in so far, but I thing it is pumping it all to the top and starving the bottom end for oil. When I spin oil pump with drill I have alot of resistance at first with 125 psi then the drill speeds up and looses resistance about 20 seconds into the test, but still holds about 125 psi. Do you thing the pump is sucking the pan dry. System 1 oil pump.
Also I preheated synergyn 70 wt to 130 degrees and poured in for this test. When I started motor I had 190psi oil pressure, but after the car ran for about 3 to 4 minutes to get some good heat in it, the psi fell to about 90 psi idlleing about 2100 rpm and flashed to about 135 psi when i killed the fuel shut off. Is 90 psi a safe idle oil psi?
    Thanks for any help. Howard

That oil pump will empty the pan. Call System 1 at 559-687-1955. Ask for Richard, tell him Farmboy told you to call.

    Oil Level

I tried to fight this deal a few years ago...I could not believe that you needed so much oil. Steve and Richard from System One insisted that we have 20 quarts on board with a dry sump (remote) tank. Most experts recommend that you have enough oil to make the entire 1/4 mile run if none ever gets pumped back to the remote tank. I built a tank and bought their pump - no oiling probelms or bearing problems in 2 years...time & money well spent!

we run a tfx with the deep pan. 14 quarts total, and so far no issues. when cold we have 190 psi at startup with 60 wt. oil. when warm the pressure drops down to around 130. we use a keith black billet pump.hope this helps
