    One and a half (very long) years after switching to a Blown Alcohol Funnycar from an injected door car we had igintion today (lift off coming soon). While it is going to be just a fast bracket/match race deal I'm pretty jazzed. I've asked several questions on this board during the build and I thank those who offered reponses. The engine is BBC 588 ci 1471 hi-helix with 13 gal pump. We have it at 28* and 11% over right now. At 4,400 rpm (on throttle enhancer/convertor it's making 7lbs of boost. I'm thinking about launching near this rpm with my 1.89 glide, 4.30 rear and 34.5 tires. Two questions though;

#1 With current setting what boost would you expect at 7,500-7,800 rpm?
#2 Is the leave too high?

Thanks for your help btw it felt like chirstmas eve last night knowing we were firing today:)

hey james as for boost we go through the light with 38# of boost and far as leaving the lights we just swap feet..our 60 foots are in the high 80's to low 90's with an average 91 or a 92 sixty foot. if i leave around 3000 it will shake the tires. also we are running 48 over.. after you run this thing you might wanna try putting some more leed in it, also keep an eye on the pump 13 gals. is on the skinny side.. (READ YOUR PLUGS) they don't lie good luck dave lowe

Man you are talking way out of my range. We are looking for 1400-1500 hp:)

I was hoping we could get close to 1300 starting out at 15lbs of boost and sneek up on it from there, am I in the ballpark?

play with the timing and fuel..but remember read your plugs..so what is ment buy that is every run put new ones in so you get a reading, use your old plugs for warn up plugs. yes your in the park. watch your pump. alittle on the smaller side. who flowed it?always take small steps. you know when people say to get it flowed and get a base line tune up it will help in the long run, well it will pay off in the long run... talkin for experince...but good luck let us all know how it runs..Dave Lowe

    fuel system flowed

u need to call someone and get your fuel system flowed, and they can give you a baseline for your application. i can relate to the excitement of finally getting it ready to run, but in any blown application, all your hard work can quickly be relagated to junk.

you'll be surprised how reasonable someone like ralph/spike gorr will flow your system and give you a starting point to tune from that will get you going down track rather than fighting it. i can almost guarantee you it will be cheaper than multiple trips to the track to learn the same info.

Hey James, we got our lit up tonight. Not used to the oil pressure this thing has, 150 psi at idle 200 when you wack it. Even though you got us by 144 inches and we only have the 6-71 on it we may give you a run for the money ;-)

I think you'll be surprised how much power you'll make. We run a match race
blown alky chevy (477) with a 6-71 (Littlefield std helix retro) and are making 1300-1400 HP with 32% OD, 22# boost and 30 degrees timing with hat nozzles only. We have a 13 gallon 110 pump and we have room to grow with the tune up.

With the size of your engine and hi-helix 14-71 you'll be in the 2000 range once all tuned up I would imagine.

We run a TransSpecialties P/G with their 10" Caddy Converter and have had excellent results with it. Our 60' are 1.07 and we leave @ 3000 RPM.

Hope this helps...Isn't the initial fire up so cool....:D

Well I not in the market for 2000hp unless of couse JapTin is making 1950hp:p I'm having the fuel system done by a local (well known) tuning guru. JapTin you might even know him :) We will be going to Sacramento for a Saturday testing session soon with the funnycar body on. After seeing Capps' crash Gaynor's Nostaligic funnycar (near blow-over) I'll attach the wheelie bars just in case.

Care to make an et quess anyone? All blown up has already been taking by wife

    JamesD.

Jim Oddy claims 300 extra HP over a STD helix 14-71 with a hi-helix (again with the proper tune up) So that puts you at 1700 HP plus the extra cubes....
You'll have fun, keep it safe and let us know how it goes.

Pam always makes the good picks.
Can I take just part blown up ? I don't think you can blow it ALL up.
