Clutch Surfacing/Care

    Well, the time has come to shell out some $$ and buy a clutch surfacer (all clutch surfaces, friction & steel). The question now is "what" to buy, and whether to drag it around in the trailer or leave it in the shop and carry presurfaced spares?

    We'd like to buy something that is durable, adjustable, stable, and uses common industrial stuff. 110V if going in the trailer. Wet or dry. A variety of different clutch types in the future, for different projects.

    Does the description above pretty much narrow the choice to a Van Norman, or are there other alternatives out there? What are people's thoughts about carrying spare parts in the trailer, and surfacing once back home? Can a Van Norman machine be easily used as an all-in-one clutch machine?

    Anyone have a used machine for sale that will do the above?

    We use A Van Norman machine for everything.

    The bull machine is what we use and it works great. We built a small rolling cart and carry it with us at the track. We will do clutches for guys at the track who dont have a machine. Makes some extra money too!:)

    Clutch machine

    We presently have clutch machines in stock. There are over 60 of these in use in all the supercharged classes including top fuel and funny car. this unit does the discs,floaters,pressure plate,and flywheel [with studs in] . Machine is 145 lbs, small, portable and on wheels. Leaving Sat. Oct. 21 for Vegas - delivery possible. Call me at 423 967-6817

    I have one of Barrys machines and I think it is a nice piece. not as fast as a big machine ( van norman) but vary portable and it does a nice job...

    i bought a van norman last winter and feel it was the best money i could spend . i bought it through kwik way and the support and tech help is great. also by using a coolant while cutting is a great option that the small units don't have. it keeps the mess down and when i am done cutting , the parts are still nice and cool. there is also a hookup on the side to put a shop vac hose while cutting the clutch disks. just don't try to take it with you to the track. too heavy.

    Hey there Walt, we use the bull machine on a rolling cart and usually ground spares back at the shop and still do but as the weather got a little cooler we started leaving the big fan at home and bringing the clutch machine and have a permanent spot for on the trailer for it now but have never needed to use it, usually just used the D A sander for when we pulled the clutch on Sat nites. ;)
