I was wondering what the latest opinions are on the characteristics for Hoosiers on a TAFC. What's the preferred compound..how do they perform during a run...do they bite first then spin?...or do they tend to spin first then bite?...are they still peeling after a few runs?...haven’t run them in a few years and would like to hear from those who use them now. Thanks :D

OK..I knew that would get some of you to open up.:) ..Yes I looked at each one of those pictures..side note: Dave try to get closer shots of Manzo when pulling clutch apart, adding /subtracting counter weight, racepak screen shots..you know just for purely entertainment purposes;) ...Ya we ran Hoosiers the majority of our runs , however they began to lose their formula regarding consistent rubber characteristics...blistering after 4 runs..was wondering about that kind of stuff.. it seems to be rectified...

Hoosiers are the most common tires used on blown ProMods. Nobody I know has any problems with them. The is no peeling or chunking. Most if not all blown ProMods use beadlocks with them and no liners.

We run Hoosiers and dont have any issues with them. As far as the slippage or grip at the hit, it all depends on the setup. As far as wear, we run ours 10-12 passes and then put a fresh set on.

On a side note, all the Bob Miner powered cars run Goodyears. Maybe Gerry Woz can fill us BAE guys in on why Bob prefers the Goodyears over the Hoosiers.

We loved Hoosiers for the longest time, then we ran into the issues I've already stated. We've run all our 50's with Hoosiers and we will have them on for Las Vegas. I believe enough time has past and the performance of other cars running them certainly supports that. ....We only switched to Hoosiers as a last resort actually Frankie..couldn't keep running tires that peeled and blistered after 3-4 runs..not safe and not economical at the time....Running Goodyear's is not a prerequisite of running a Bob Miner combo..it's just a known commodity that works....got to keep advancing that tuneup or get passed up....:D

    goodyears vs hoosiers

mind you this is coming from a converter car...but i compared notes with another team that made the switch in dallas and they experienced the same...

going from the hoosiers to the goodyears...it seems the hoosiers hook harder at the initial launch, but are looser down track. it seems to be easier to smoke the goodyears at the hit, but our car quit shaking when we made the switch. i've blown the hoosiers off 100 ft down track (on a national event surface - other cars running .50's.) we were able to hop our car up considerably down track vs. the hoosiers.

i think it depends on your chassis and combination as to which tire works better for you. you just have to listen to what your car is telling you it wants. after basketballing ours all the way into high gear, we got the point.
