    36-48

you can get by with as little as 36, but 48 is the norm.

site advertiser larry miersch makes a great compact unit for only $850.

the high $$$ batteries are great!!!!i guess??? all I have ever used is 3 lawn and garden batteries 36 volt i get the highest cranking amps that your local wal-mart sells and there you have it they will last us for 3 years. the charger we use is from our best friends golf cart...I hope they dont read this or they will want it back:). but this has worked for usw for the last 10 years, and yes its a rcd starter. dave lowe

4 garden tractor batteries from napa I think they are 230 cca's each wired up for 48 volts , home made tray of angle aluminum that lines them up in a row between the front and rear seat on the golf cart . Total cost around $ 250-300 for everything including all wiring , spins the engine over just fine .

just for the kicks I just got some new batteries at the first part of the summer and we spent under $80.00 that is using my tax id.. now that is what i call a Ferd Sanford deal. So now you have the extra $800.00 left over to buy some go fast parts. Dave

I agree with 48 volts and garden tractor battries- the voltage drops through the cables, so 36 volts of battry ends up at about 30 volts at the starter--

We use 4 garden tractor batteries and replace them after about a year and a half, not so much because we need to, but just as a precautionary measure. 48 volts spins the RCD starter over just fine; of course we don't have the insane static compression most of you do, but it is real nice to spin the motor over fast.
In just about an hour we'll head off to the Holy Land. That is Bakersfield and the California Hot Rod Reunion. The weather looks to be spectaular and the numbers should reflect that. It'd be real nice to run a 5.70 something at this race, nobody has run in the '70's this year, and its about time.

Ok Tried 3 Lawn And Garden 12 Volt 200 Cca, Wired At 36 Volts, Fresh Stripped Littlefield(probably Too Tight) And A Fresh 572 Would Not Crank Fast Enough,mag44 We Thew Another 12 On It And It Did Ok. Think There Is A Noticable Difference By Upping The Cca From 200 To Like 230?

    As I posted earlier--
"the voltage drops through the cables, so 36 volts of battry ends up at about 30 volts at the starter--"
    use 48 volts--
