Dry Sump Oil Volume

    I am converting my alcohol dragster from wet sump to dry sump, its a bae hemi with a psi, what volume of oil are most guys carrying, also what are considered the best dry sump pumps, p&p, system 1 , farria, i heard aviad has a new pump,
    any help much appreciated

    I might be a bit biased, as Steve Faria tunes our Nostalgia top Fuel car; but his dry sump pump is one totally bitchin' piece. We carry five gallons of 70 W. Torco, and that seems to be the usual amount for most fuel cars, can't comment on the alky burners. Pay attention when you build your dry sump tank, baffle and deaireate the oil properly, and you'll love the results. BTW, System 1 and Faria are one and the same.

    on jason cannon's car we ran a p&p with 16 qts capacity and it worked real well.

    fwrc makes a mean two stage dry sump pump. it's a trick peice that has over tripled bearing life. we scavenge out of the lifter valley and oil pan.
    oil tank design is important. ensure you have baffling to prevent the oil from going to the front when you hit the chutes and you need to have some diffusers on the return side to prevent aireation of the oil. also it needs to be adequately vented for the volume you're going to run.

    Dry Sump

    Hi Will,
    How many scavenging lines does your system use in the pan, and lifter valley? Where do you place the lifter valley line (s), and why don’t you scavenge from the valve covers???
    Lots of questions, any info would be appreciated.

    scavenging

    we have a -16 line coming out of the pan and a -12 line coming out of the back of the lifter valley. we made a pickup that went through the conventional oil fill hole to the back of the lifter valley.

    we are working towards scavenging out of the valve cover valley. we are just waiting for the right test opportunity to try it.

    we use a p&p pump and it works good but on BAE engine the system 1 high flow works real well
