timing questions

I have a 12.5 to 1 aftermarket 468 bbc in a drag jet boat and I have been reading some of the tec questions and they say 32 deg of timing is a kill tune Iam running a super mag 3 that is fresh and I am running 36-38deg it just wont run good at 32 deg I am injecting alk trough a std helix ft discharge 14-71 it runs good I was just currious if the diff was the msd mag or what am I doing wrong my other friends are also running 36-38 deg thank you Craig moss 918-271-0154

When we ran a SMIII and SMIV, with our Chevys that is the area of timing we were in. Hope that helps.

Timing Question

What kind of boost levels are we talking about? That will have an effect on total timing as well.

 

Timing

Chevy's will take more timing than a Hemi will. The more conservative timing numbers you've seen on here are probably for that reason (Chrysler). I ran my blown alky chevy at around the same timing as you are.

 

BBC timing

How did the plugs look ? you can add timing if you have the fuel to match and the brg's look good, we ran the same set up in a R.E.D. at 46 advance w/ a super mag 5 and never hurt anything all year and ran in the low 6.3 sec at 219 mph
