Have you all seen the latest pole at nhra`s web site, ???
which is your favorite SPORTSMAN CLASS.
    hmmmmmm wheres top alcohol ?????
when asked to phil burgess why the alcohol class was not part of the sportsman pole he replied with.

( "technically, the alcohol classes are considered Pro-Sportsman classes ... this was a pole for the other classes." )

thank you NHRA for the recognition
    p.s. love your SPORTSMAN SHOW:p

    First Clue !!!

I raised my voice on this site in the past about the TAD class being omitted from the Sportsman Nationals but it went like a cry in the wilderness. Now we are not even included in a pole. The reason we are not in the Sportsman Nationals is we were told was because of the purse The real reason is that NHRA told the tracks it was ok not to include TAD & TAFC. Now it is wonderful to find out NHRA doesn't consider us in the sprotsman class. I just wonder if the consider us Pro Alcohol when will the purses, press, and treatment be represenative of the new class name????
I am not bashing NHRA just lobbing for fair treatment for the class.

Along these same lines lets look at another example. In the IHRA (yes that other place) Evan Knoll has basically signed the death cirtificate on the alcohol funny car class. You cant argue that the money Mr. Knoll has put into the sport isnt great, he has spent a great deal of money on alot of racers but I find it some what Ironic that while doing these good deads he pretty much single handedly killed the roots blown AFC. This is my opinion of course but it sure looks like he has when you take a look at the fact that ever professional class in IHRA except the AFC (which is still considered a professional class) is now refered to as TORCO Race Fuels blah blah......The IHRA nitro funny car class will never be what Knoll wants because he needs to take his rose colored glasses off and realize that those big names that arent showing up arent going to because their sponsors want them to run NHRA races. Ask Gilbertson how much autolite gave him to attend the IHRA races. And with the overlapping events next year do you really think they are going to skip NHRA races to race IHRA races...I think not points are worth too much. So now that the AFC class is basically dead I wish the IHRA the best with their funny car show.....

In response to Mr.Burgess return email. I had this to say

Technically,....they are,.. or ,they are not,... NOT.
The Alcohol class get announced as sportsman, not Pro Sportsman, the tv show is called sportsman show .
I am not trying to bite anyones head off, its just that the class is neglected, take indy for example.
they brought the rained out pro mod race from memphis and invited them to run at indy, the alcohol class almost , i said almost, lost two runs to rain, but the pro mods got theirs regaurdless.
im just saying if you want to call the class
PRO SPORTSMAN , the class should get better recognition. We are all professionals out here and the Alcohol class are the 3rd fastest class in the NHRA. If you want to use the word SPORTSMAN in any part of naming the alcohol class, the alcohol class should get the same exposure and poles as the rest of the sportsman classes out there.
PRO in Pro Sportsman has not been used in years..if you want to put PRO into the class catergory, the class should be treated and offered the same as any other pro class.
The alcohol class is thriving for exposure, and there are a lot of corporations
and sponsors that would love to step up and bring more money into the ranks, but they see how the class is treated and put aside, or parked in dirt and muddy grass, like some super pro, last resort class to run down the track when the nhra feels they have time. Alot of the alky car owners and drivers have stepped up a great deal, and they are not getting nothing back in return from the nhra.
$1,000.00 dont really pay for nothing anymore to compete on the level the class has taken, considering an average run cost $1500 thats money out of pockets to qaulify for a field ,that even if you get by first round your still out $4,500
for the 3 qaulifying runs, loose first round you get what $900.00,
    and at a divisional race
you get $250.00 for first round lose. yeaaaaa.
The Pro catergories, individual race purses for the topfuel and nitro funny cars should be well over $150,000.00 for each race to win
    when will NHRA step up.
Maybe we should all go roundy round racing theyve got the pay outs and exposure.
If the Alcohol class is any part of (SPORTSMAN) they should get the same exposure.
and on a side note:.....(ALL CARS) RACING AT A NHRA EVENT
SHOULD HAVE A MANDATORY ENGINE DIAPER AND TRANNY FLUID CONTAINMENT BAG ,and OR BELLY PAN.
Just speaking my peace , not trying to bite any ones head off, but come on egg shells are for chickens.

I would urge caution about assigning blame (particularly on one person) or forecasting the death of any catagory. The whole picture is too big for any of us individuals to clearly see all the factors that have the sport where it is today - healthy or unhealthy depending on your view.
If any of you have not read the Darrell Gwynn update at Competition Plus, you should. The part about wealthy teams striking sponsorship deals for less than it realistically takes to run really stood out to me. And while that seems very unfair to the little guy...it is what it is. Ultimately business is what drives the sport, whether it's sponsor dollars or private money made in businesses elsewhere. And while I may not agree with everything NHRA or IHRA does, I am a willing participant.

like russ said, its their playground so if you want to play, it's by their rules. and when you play on their playground ,you have to realize they can change the rules at any time and even put the game away when ever they feel like it.

I think you have the right to bitch when your funding the game, and not only that but out of your own pocket. Tyler Teal
