    Running a 438KB Hemi, 4.310 bore, 3.75 stroke, 6.981" rod, 173cc heads, 11:1 comp, 14/71 stripped std helix at 36% with S/mag IV @42psi boost.

I have previously ran on the safer side of 32deg, which from what I can work out to be fairly soft as no bearing push etc, but I am looking to get closer to the optimum setting with fuel and timing, any suggestions other than to be very careful.

    Cheers Ray

Go 1 degree at a time, you should be abel to run 35 / 36 with no problum.

Eli, you have backed up my thoughts, thanks.

I can vaguley remember an "old rule of thumb" of how far down the bore the piston will be in regards to the crank angle eg. 0.5625 (9/16") and take a reading on the degree hub, this would then indicate a ball park ignition timing setting regardless of rod, stroke etc.

    Any thoughts.

I go by how many cc`s the heads have, more cc`s the more timing.
You might want to up the compression to 12.5 to 1 also, dont forget to richin it up. P/S im asuming you are running alky?
