Hello everyone, I just have a few questions about tuning a blown alky sbc. I've got the basics of the air and the fuel issue but, i can use all the help that i can get. Now, i need alittle help in figuring out where to go with the timing? If there is anyone who could contribute the slightest bit of information in any way , that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, josh Feel free to email: cookracingbbfd@yahoo.com, with any additional info or sites relating to these subjects.

    Josh,
I'm no expert, but here's what we ran in our SBC. Steel filled block, Dart Pro 1 heads (untouched), 10.5:1 CR. 8-71 making 12lbs boost. Enderle 80A pump (7.5 gallons). Hat nozzles only. We ran our best with 36 degrees timing. MSD 7AL distributor ignition system. We ran 7.70's @ 170 in a 2100lb car.
Although the stock 2 bolt caps did begin to "walk":D

    Stock 2 bolt caps?............scarrry.
Do yourself a favor, switch to a mag and run no more than 32 degrees of timing.

That was the smartest thing you could've done. You can actually run more static compression with that block than any other BBC block for the fact that the Olds has side bolted mains. I've seen some BBC non-skirted blocks push the main webs out from too much compression (I'm talking about blown motors). Good choice.

We run a dragster at 2800ft Sbc 671 @ 2% over, 74 cast iron heads, 110 pump, 10.5 -1 comp, 411 gear, 27 degrees timing, car is probably 1-200 lbs heavier than a regular dragster, 225" wb Flat tappet camshaft, 550 lift. 120lbs seat press, 194 int valve, 72cc head,Hat nozzles, 2x32,2x33,2x34,2x35, Port nozzles 4x20, 2x22,2x24, HS@65lbs 124 pill, 140 main@ 3lbs. Int manifold is an old Wiend style. so far she has gone 7.52 @ 175mph, once we figure out the fuel curve we hope it will run around 7.35 @ 178mph yes driven by a female.
