    sealant

You Can Use Gaskets Or Black Right Stuff Silicone Cheese In A Can Type Or Good Ole Permatex Blue, orange Or Clear Silicone. If You Do A Gasket Apply A Very Thin Coating Of White Grease To Both Sides Of The Gaskets So Thin You Really Don't Even See It Should Help From Keeping The Gasket From Sticking. Good Luck

We use a gasket and silicon. I would advise you to dry fit and check for a good seal all around. We do this by holding a shop florescent lamp up all along the outside of the injector while looking on the inside with the butterflys open. Just look for any light coming thru. This way you can see if you need some additional silicon in the center of the along the sides. Ours does to seal.

    Good luck,

I don't use anything but white grease between the injector and plate, and plate to blower.

Tune the barrell around any insignificant leak you may have (and it will be insignificant). When you need to take it a part, not much of a mess to worry about and it works just fine. My blower was cut at PSI so it doesn't even have an oring. The injector does, but I doesn't matter as long as the sealing surface is flat and clean when you put it together.

I can't remember the last time I used any sealant on the injector. Gaskets and globs of sealant can distort a mag injector anyway when you tighten it down. Then you risk binding the shaft and blades.

I probably should have asked if you were using new or used parts.

Obviously the "other" Randy :) is correct if everything is nice and flat, you don't need anything but the gasket.

Our blower and hat came on a motor we had purchased used. At some point in their life they developed an air gap between the hat and blower surface that was enough to let the gasket suck in on the sides.

Over the Winter when JR is freshening the blower we will cure the problem. Although we don't separate ours very often, it does take new gaskets and some clean up work when we do.

I was trying to help you catch a possible problem before that happened to you also.

    Sealant

Both Randys Make Good Points And Even If You Are Using New Parts They Are Not Always Flat From End To End. Good Idea If You Have A Lapping Plate For Doing Manifolds You Could Do The Top Of The Blower Case And The Bottom Of The Injector. We Lap All Surfaces On The Roots Blower Cases And They Usually Benifit From A Little Love On The Lapping Table.

Good point...and (for the other Randy) we don't use a gasket. Just white grease.

If you've tightened it down with a gasket before you will absolutely have to make sure the injector isn't warped at the sealing surface.

I'm sure you've heard this before, but for the few who haven't...Laping plates like the ones you use for lapping manifolds can do a lot of damage if you don't know what you are doing. The tendency for the unskilled is to lean on it with two guys working it. The end result is corners that are lower than the center. Be very carefull.

Does anyone know whether the non hardening "Hylomar" sealant works okay with alky or nitro fuels?....

    sealing

If you got leaks on the oil return holes this is the only sealer that works never had a leak with this stuff. very hard to find made to R.Royce specs. also expensive but does the job. Mike

Very good point, Randy. One guy only needs to work the lapping plate and like most tools, let the lapping plate do the work. Your just there to push and pull.
