Has anyone in the past tried to run a naturally aspirated A/Fuel ProMod or Funny Car? If so, curious what the outcome was. Just wondering if a really light A/Fuel Outlaw ProMod of similar displacement (or more) might give the outlaw blower guys some headaches?

in the mid to late 90's Scott Weis ran an injected nitro f/c in IHRA. he was flying with the car, running 5.70's with ease. they changed the rules pretty quick on that one. no more injected nitro f/c.

The Cavalerie (if I spelled that right) brothers ran an injected nitro funny car in IHRA also. I think like the AFD's, when they got the tune up figured out, hang on.

Toote appreciated hearing that his work is still being talked about! He replied,

Thanks Bud. This really makes me feel good as well as your trust in me.
The link they have is to the nitro AA/FC car that ran in the NHRA which
is where they went when the ihra lied to them about allowing the a/fuel
car to run since it was in the ihra rule book for fifteen years, and is
the same A fuel car. The car was unstoppable it was 2 to 3 tenths
faster than anyone who showed up. I have numerous records and wins on my
office wall it set all over their circuit, and they hit the car with less
gear and wing halfway thru the season and it still was fast as stink.
the blower guys SW mainly cried like babies so when at baton rouge the
car went 5.80 out of the box even after they tried to slow us down
..well I call it the Scott Weis memorial rule Bader come round at end of
race and said don't bring this car back next year. breaking his word to
us ( fancy that at the ihra..lol) because no one else could run with us.
and yes the C bros did try to run a car but they never got th!
e tune up, I heard they blew the cylinder head off one time though if
that counts for anything, think someone got hurt not sure just hear say.
But "Lurelene" which was the cars name was the car to beat and no one
I've heard of has ever done as well in the ihra with this combo as the
car i constructed for Scott. It was such a well built car that Scott and
his family being understandably upset at the ihra. took that same car
and put a blower on it took it to the gators to get licensed for aa/fc
and the first time at a NHRA track it went 5.18 @291mph good enough for
the 18 spot, and for the next 2 years 1999 & 2000 it qualified for
every NHRA AA/FC race it went to, runnig as fast as 4.95 @305 before the
Weis family traded it to the caverlari bros for a newer McKinny
dragster, which unfortunately hasn't done as well for them as the old faithful
Lurlene. she was one hell of a car.I had the great honor and privilege
to build and help sponsor the car as well as many others for the!
Weis family and these where some of the best racing times of my caree
    r. I've built many pro mods, and I can say without doubt that an A/fuel
motored pro mod with the right tune up would probably run 5.80's too,
and probably be asked to leave about as quick as we were. Nothing makes
one go like that evil yellow stuff (nitro). The old timer's didn't call
it pop for nothing. Tootee www.tootees.com

P.S. Post if you like Dave.
