first off let me say that i am by no means trying to start crap with this thread ! I have heard from a few IHRA racers that say this is the last year for the alcohol funnies. with the year half over has IHRA come out and said anything directly to the racers ? most of you know i am not a fan of IHRA but I still hate to see this happen because it will only raise the cost of running these cars even more. does IHRA anticipate short fields so they are just doing this on their own ? It's a shame because I do remember the days of 20 - 30 alcohol funnies showing up for 16 car fields and the class along with pro-mod seemed to be supporting IHRA buy saving the pro shows. hell they would have 40 pro-mods and 30 funny cars. just curious if the nails are going in the coffin lid like i have heard.

I would like to hear more about this too (if this is a true rumor). If someone could PM me with any REAL gossip, it would be appreciated, just spent a TON of $$ getting the new car out for the first time last weekend and would like to get at least a couple years of "fun" out of it!!

    Ihra A/fc

I didn't get a warm fuzzy about IHRA alcohol program when I went to San Antonio earlier in the year...

The problem is the race tracks. Now that they get the nitro cars, they feel the nitro FC's are bringing the fans. They feel having to pay an alcohol FC purse isn't getting them anything but less money in their pocket. Look for them to be gone next year if no sponsor carrys the purse expense.

I agree the looming threat is a reality. We just poured a bucket of $ in a new car and definetely don't want it to disappear. Yes, its down to 8-cars, but they are very competitive cars and usually put on a good close race. We defenitely need a Class Sponsor to survive, its business. Who is that going to be..................??!! Mark, are you and Fred towing to Norwalk?

Will be there, then Toronto, then??? Finally got the new car out to "test" at Martins race, went 5.98 on only the second pass! Would have been even happier if it was a 5.97, then could have "played" on Sunday. Will still be "testing" at Norwalk but its better than trying to test on a greasy Wed night track at home! I will bring the BIG grill and the BIG cooler!! See ya I think the new performance must be in those front wheels:

That's what I was thinking. Hopefully the IHRA decision makers aren't reading this thread and agreeing with dropping the class when it was just a rumor and never considered before.:(

I hope that the A/FC's don't go anywhere here in the IHRA. I love the class and I would hate to see them go away! Tim, I love your new Stratus and I cannot wait until I see it in person at Norwalk. You may remember me, I was the kid that always packed the parachutes for Fast Eddie & Hurricane Patti Lyons back during the Super Eliminator / Pro Outlaw / Top Dragster days until they retired down in Tennessee. I'll be racing my 318 cid 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger Special in the NO BOX ET class. There should be a ton of cars as there were some cars testing already this past Saturday. Mostly the Sportsman cars but there were some impressive passes from some Top Sportsman cars and two blown altered's. The track will be premo Saturday so if you want to do some more testing that would be a great time, plus you can drive your rig into Linder's Lot to get in line for the Skull Shine World Nationals with a losing et slip after the first round. Good Luck to all and you may see me partying in the A/FC / Pro Mod pits at night. If only Ronnie Midyette still ran as he threw some CRAZY parties during the World Nationals.

Thanks for the updates Mark & Tim. I'm sure that it will be good times again around Ronnie's semi at Norwalk on Friday and Saturday nights. I'll have to stop by and say hi to all of you guys. I predict that the bump will be 5.88.

We are loading up today and tommorow while we have some time off.
Performance depends on the weather, last year in qual the grains were 138. it was so sticky it was foggy!
then for sunday mourning it cleared out and we changed trans ratio's blower speed and timing and went to round one chewing our fingernails off! then threw the rods out @ stage against Robbie in round 2..LOL
