Anyone running Total Seal's Zero Gap top ring sets? I was reading about some problems with crankcase pressure when running a zero gap second ring do you think I will have the same problem with the TOP being a zero gap? I have only run the car on the stands but I noticed cyl #2 let a shot of oil out when I brought the rpm to 4000 but then it quit??
    our combo
    Blown alky SBC
    25-30psi boost
    4.125" bore
    Zero gap top @ .032"
    std second @ .022
    std tesion oil ring
    Good or Bad???
    Thanks
    Mac:confused:

We don't use them anymore. Some of the piston manufacturers say that Zero Gap rings cause alot of ring fludder. Which in turn, makes for less sealing.

    zero gap rings

i've used C & A s second ring aka wiper ring zero gap for years, with Great results, but this is the 1st i've heard of a zero gap TOP ring? like POP said leak down of 2 to 6 is NOT uncommon.

When TS first introduced their gapless ring sets, they offered a gapless TOP ring. In theory, a good idea, but the materials of the time were not up to the task. TS then promptly moved their offereing down a notch to the second groove for longevity, and others have followed suit. TS has since recently begun to re-offer a TOP gapless ring, supposedly able to withstand turbos & nitrous & extreme duty. A lot of the import guys have used them with great sucess.

I'd like to see some feedback from a big bore real world application though, to know if such rings will comply to the wall "and" properly transfer heat. Anyone out there tried them in a TAD roots/psi deal yet?
