I have just purchased a new merlin pro block for my 540bbc and I was wondering if you guys fill the water jackets on these blocks. The block is already so very heavy.I also have a set of afr 357s with water jackets and wondering whether to fill these as well.
My application is in an 14/71 alcohol funny. Not looking to set any records by would like to run in the 6.90s.Any help is appreciated

    Block Filler

We Always At Least 3/4 Filled Our Bowtie Blocks, Not Sure If It Needed It Or Not.. I Wouldnt Fill The Heads, If You Have To Weld It It Is Almost Impossible To Repair

We use to fill our stock blocks for blown alky because the castings are junk. The newer blocks are very strong. We also have this block in our funny car. In vegas 2 years ago the engine gernaded and the only problem with the block was the nicks in the cylinders from busted parts. This is a consistant 6.40 car. So my answer would be no because the quality of the blocks today are far better than yesterdays blocks. Our heads are the dart 330 solid head. Dont like water heads.
    See ya

If you are not larger than 4.530 bore , the cyl wall can handle lots of pressure , this block is very strong , i used one like that , empty

thanks for your replies.I think I will leave it empty. My main worry with the heads was heat dissipation.Bought heads 18months ago before deciding to put new motor in funnycar instead of door car.Part of the learning curve I suppose
