17 years ago Bob Newberry ran in the fives for the first time with a TAFC...

Peter Gallen/Rich Mcphillips followed him just a couple of pairs later...

    yeah all with roots blowers.

correct me if im wrong but in spring 1995 all of a sudden you could use a PSI @ 125 over, i remember the Austins were still using a whipple at the end of 1994 but could only spin a screw at 46 over? still pisses me off!...LOL

While that statement is true, it was Newbs first, wasn't it Pat Austin that was the first in that very same race with a 5.99 on a holeshot to Newbs 5.98?

The way it went down was..... Gallen/Mcphillips was up first, they had to be shut off. Newberry was next, and he ran in the five's first. Then it was Gallen/Mcphillips, and they ran in the five's also.

13 years ago I ran my first five second pass (Pomona 1993). Jim Rizzoli came over and congratulated me by saying "Just don't take another year to run the second one like I did."

    First Fives

Lest we forget, give Steve Faria his due: he was the FIRST alcohol car in the fives. I feel very fortunate to have him as a friend and tuner on our fueler. He'll be out with his own NHRA Top Fuel car later this year, watch for great things from him.

    Blowover

Ya, we have a great photo of that huge wheelstand in Houston. My dad's a:) :) hurt for a week from the crash down. Boy, did that create a long night. My dad and David Scheelk front halfed the car that night and we came back the next day to race. Just one of those GREAT MEMORIES FROM RACING!!! Sure do miss it.
