I have some very basic questions regarding a clutch and planetary tranny set up and operation. I am a powerglide user who has never run a clutch and planetary tranny set up before, so please excuse the simplicity of these questions.
We are running a nostalgia alcohol funny car with a 477 aluminum KB olds, steel heads, 4.30 gear 34.5x17 tire. I'm planning on running a B&J tranny, and I already have a 10.7 Bonifante pedal clutch. Questions are, how do you air shift the tranny, I was told wizards makes a two button (2 speed) air shifter manifold you mount to the steering wheel. Does the manifold send CO2 to the tranny, take it away or momentarily apply co2 to the tranny?
How do you put the tranny in neutral after the pass? Apply the clutch pedal? Or to load it on the trailer

How does the B&J tranny mount in the rear? Is there a mounting pad on the bottom of the reverser?

What's the best source for a clutch pedal and linkage? Can it be mounted to the can?

Thanks to all for the help.

    Keith -
We have run the B&J transmission in a door car for a few years now, and we love it. Mike at B&J is the most helpful person in the trans industry, for sure!! To shift this thing, CO2 pressure is applied to a piston that rides inside the trans case and presses on a set of clutches in the planetary set. So to shift the trans, you need to go from no air pressure on the piston to full/constant pressure on the piston (it's not a momentary signal). To put the trans in neutral: on the back of the transmission, there should be a reverser unit, which will allow you to select forward/neutral/reverse by way of a lever on the side of the unit. Note that you will have as many speeds in reverse as you do in forward (many drivers abuse this feature, ha ha). Mounting is accomplished through the use of studs that are threaded into the side of the transmission case. As far as the clutch pedal and linkage, I can't really help much on that one....the FC stuff is different than what we run, although if I remember correctly someone on this board made reference to a clutch can modification that could be done by the can manufacturer that would mount the pedal directly to the can...a McKinney setup, I think (i.e. Murf McKinney)? Maybe one of these guys can chime in. Good luck with the new setup!!

PS - Be sure to use enough CO2 pressure, or it will burn up the clutch packs (ask me how I know). Mike at B&J will be able to give you the proper pressure.

I have a drawing of McKinney's pedal assembly. If you have a fax number I can send it to you.

Ask Mike @ B&J his opinion of the shift button manifold you are talking about. B&J's require higher pressure to shift than a Lenco and the manifold needs to be up to the task.

    Trans Mounting

Both B&J, Lenco just mount off of stud in the bellhousing, no rear mount
don't know about B&J, but Lenco's dont have a NEUTRAL. We use the clutch
for neutral. As far as towing we use a device to hold the pedal down, pushes
between the clutch pedal & the steering cross member.

You can get a Lenco with a neutral, I had a CS2 and a Bruno and the Lenco had a neutral which was used quite often.

I used in my blown doors car a ACD shifter control for lenco type trans , it's a air/electronic device , you can program it like a powerglide electric shifter , you need only a push buttom on the steering wheel , if you chose to shift manually , otherwise the shift is electronicaly controled
    ACD-8203-2 , -3 , -4 depending howmany gear you have
