I'm sure some of you that watched the results are wondering what the hell happened to the drivers in the right lane in the second round. The sun was at a dead perfect angle behind the tree for the drivers in the right lane. I've never seen it that bad.

Hindsight is 20/20, and I don't think any of us who had to run the right lane asked for a slight pause to let the sun pass, but i would hope in the future, if someone had the snap to ask, and it was as bad as this round was, nhra would let the round pause for 5-10 min for the sun to pass that position. If not, the moral of the story is if you have lane choice pick the other lane...

As a disclaimer, Karen probably would have beat us either way, so I'm not blaming Mike's loss on that. There was some other rounds that may not have been the case.

    Will,
I agree 100% we ran rifgt behind Mike and had lane choice but never noticed the tree until Guy was staging, I think he left by the sound of the other car but at that point the race was over. Also I dont know if Artie's second round pass was a result of sunlight but it was a scarie looking pass.

I did not see the run as I was working in the pits, but I knew exactly what the problem was with Mike Kosky and Guy Kelley when I heard it over the PA system. We bracket race every Summit ET Series Points race at this track and the right lane is terrible at sunset. The only remedy is to shield your eyes with one hand (thereby leaving the line with only one hand on the steering wheel) or to wear sunglasses. I feel bad especially for Guy because that probably cost him the round.

Word to the wise....If you are EVER here again and it is near sunset, wear sunglasses or ask NHRA to delay the runs until the sun dips below the grandstands.

It is really upsetting that the powers at be did not see the danger in running that round with the sun directly in your eyes. i didn't realize it untill we came under the tower and i could not
even see Ronnie's hand signals bringing me into
the burnout. Artie Allen almost wrecked because he
couldn't see even down track. I never saw the tree
activated i left on the sound of mcphillips motor
with a .328 light. thats tuff with a 5.47 to a 5.74 we had a good car this weekend. but you live
you learn and i am still learning!!

as a crew member for artie i can tell you that the sun was the reason for the whole pass. he told us after the run that he left on the sound from the other car and could not see down track utill it was too late to keep off the centerline. shame on us for not even noticing untill it was too late....
