    Hey folks,
Quick question,, Dont want any oil brand wars here. I have a blown 468 in our digger. We have run syn 60 weight in the past. Would 20/50 be better? I kinda think it may be to light. BUT thoughts?

    Oil

We run 20/50 Lucas with a quart of stabalizer. Works great, no bearing problems and worth a few HP.

ok, I have both. We blew the bottom end last fall. Looking at the bearings, they were toast. Somebody had told us to take the oil restrictors out and I figure this was the result.
    Thanks for the info guys

I run 5/30 full syn for last 6 years without any problem . when i replace it once a year it looks like new, it's BBC estimated at 2000 HP . Is it possible to run this grade of oil with more hp likeTop alcohol cars?

wildride- might work if you dumped in a "LOT" of prolong or lucas additive/stabilizer- The heat is so high it all runs like water after the burn out on both alky and nitro cars. Cylinder pressures are so high now that I am amazed any oil stays between brgs and crank surface, thus the need for a good stabilizer. just my opinion.

    oil

div6 safety.things to consider when choosing oil weight, bearing clearance, amount of hp produced&do you preheat oil before run.also,rpm,s.we run a dragboat 540 kb olds, under 8000 rpm app 1500 hp,50 wt oil&always preheat oil to 150 degrees, also add 20% lucas oil stabilizer.bearings live forever, remember, this is not a tafc or tad going to 10,500 rpm and running on the ragged edge, lol mike t

When you took out the restrictors did you put plugs back in ? We ran Olds @ chevys a long time and had very few oiling problems. Also ran 25/50 and no problems. Mike

I would not think we run much over 7,500 rpm. Maybe 700 hp. The bearings looked bad. BUT had been in the car for a few years. We may have run it 5 or 6 times in the past season. We are not much into the compitition of things yet. I like making the noise, LOL. I have had our share of busted parts, 5 glides, 3 heads is about all. Always run 60 weight, we do not preheat.
best so far is a 7.444 @ 189. Put the front end way up and set it down 93 feet later. But still having fun. OH and yes I did put plugs back in.
