Running a blown alky KB olds on the dyno. We have a titan pump with the high pressure spring,12 qt olsen pan,3qt accumulator and Brad Penn 20/50 oil. On the fist pull at 140 deg oil temp it made 65 psi at idle. By 6300 rpm it was down to 62. Jim Oddy recommeded 70 psi min so we cranked 3 more turns into the pump regulator. The next pull it idled at 87psi but by 6200 rpm it was down to 67 psi.It was making 1500hp by then so we got scared and shut it down.
Titan says the block must have some kind of huge internal leak. They said it should've made 100 psi easily. Titan and Oddy both swear by 20/50 wt oil.
We pulled the pan and the bearings are happy.
We run isky redzone lifters which seem to dump a LOT of oil on the roller wheel. The lifters feed through 4 .050 restrictors. Any more restriction and it burns valvetrain.
We run .004 clearance on the rods and .005 on the mains with steel caps.
Is 60 wt the ticket? Mike

What kind of oil filter are you running? You could have the incorrect screen in it.

If the lifters are not keeping the oil hoes in the main galleys closed off you will loose alot of pressure. The cam circle has alot to do with the lifters uncovering the main oil holes. the lifters that work the best with no restrictors are crane supper duty,s We never burnt apushrod with them. allways had over 100# pressure. I had heard of said oiling concerns and even posted this very question about 3 weeks ago. We run roughly the same deal, KB olds, Titan wet sump, 12qt pan, we will run 50wt oil, Oberg oil filter, blown alky with the same clearences. I am VERY interested in everyones input on this mainly because this is my first experience with KB olds and do not have the luxury of being able to put on a dyno to observe oil pressure at loaded high RPM's
We planned on running Comp Cams lifters, not the Isky Red Zone.

Keith,i'll post when we figure it out...we're not going to quit until it makes 2000hp or its scattered across the dyno cell.

make sure your mag drive or distributor groove is in line with the oil groove in the block. Also make sure it fits snug down in the block. I also had trouble with cam bearings turning and blocking the oil holes. good luck
