I know this might show how narrow my knowledge is by asking this question, However here it goes.

I am looking for a bock and head combo that you can take the head off and replace a sleeve, piston or repair the head without removing the manifold. I am sick of the BBC jesel shaft rockers and all of the other BS you have to remove just to start a repair. I thought you could do this on a BAE and on a AJ 481X. Is this true? do you have to run a Hemi set up or is their a BBC/OLDs set up?

    Thanks

Thanks, is it a Hemi set up. How is that set up on burning up pushrod tips. Any Idea on how much a complete motor is from them?

The AJ 481 is very easy to work on. Rockers come off in 1 piece, pull head with manifold on. If you have to change sleeve, get it done as soon as head comes off, while block is hot, doesn't hurt to have a sleeve in your cooler, just to drop in, as you do have to line up the flats as it goes in. Of course, if you need a block just because it is easy to change sleeves, you should look at your tune-up. (humor)

Hi, we just purchased a 481X used by Rob Atchison, you can remove the head without removing the intake. Rob also makes his own rockers. I would suggest you get intouch with him because I consider him the guru of theses engines. He didn't become the world champ three times by accident. Good luck.

My tune up is fine no burnt pistions yet, however I would like to make more power and I know there is a learing curve with it. I am getting just about All I can out of my Big M block. 2000 to 2200 hp. and it is heavy. I just want to upgrade and want something better and easier to work on. Is the AJ481 x a old/hemi cross?or pure olds or hemi.It really dont matter, I will have to start from zero any way I go. Thanks to all of you for the help. Now the hunt begins.
