i'm with will and kramer.... big cracks start small and i've not seen any coating clear or colored (hope that is politically correct) that allows you to see the weld unhindered. i have used the gun blue on a chassis before. looks really nice. still needs to be wiped down occasionally but seems to 'absorb' oil and is pretty durable. the more you oil it the better it looks. powder coated/painted chasssis can look kick ass... but i'd always wonder what i was missing

    Thanks for all the advice.

My current chassis was painted, I would never do that again. To hard to see the small cracks.

The Carnabua Wax sounds interesting as does a few other ideas.

Once again thanks for the advise

    coatings

If we all lived in Arizona this wouldn't be a problem. Will is right- uncoated is the safest way to go. I had a powder coated dragster a few years ago- what a hassle when it came time to reposition brackets or repair things. Never again. Thanks Will for the great site to talk race car stuff- now about the beer?

Painting is out.Powder coat is difficult to work with.Clear over sanded tube will eventually chip and surface rust will appear on that area. The best way is to have nothing on it.Clean with 3M brand GRAY scothbright pad, derusting to a high sheen. As a cleaner, use a quality wax and grease remover(automotive refinish grade),preferably out of a refillable plunger type can.Wipe dry with ordinary household type paper towel.Do nothing now but go out and run your car.Keep it wiped down with the same pre cleaner and cheap paper towels.Oil,
clutch dust, and funk from the track won't stick to a clean, non oily surface.Keep a dry 3M GRAY scotchbright on it after servicing and repeat procedure every time out. There is no one best way to the exclusion of all others.Keep your bare moly clean.
