Oil And Spark Plugs

    OK,It has been almost a year since my last confession, (I mean dropping a valve) so please dont key board bash me because I am sure this has been asked before , but I have spent hours in the archived forum here on tech help and want to make sure I am ok. Is the NGKB9ES or NGK6061-10 gapped at 18, the choice of plugs for a tfx,AJ stageII headed HEMI with a roots 1471 blower 29%,11 to 1 compression, mag 44 ignition on alcohol? Will I be safe to use royal purple nitro 50 filtered and cleaned every weekend? or should i use throw away oil? What flavor and weight? Have gone from a BBC to HEMI and cant afford to screw up now. Any help or tips on this setup is very appreciated. I am a begginer trying to get my feet wet for outlaw promod. I have lost a lot of money that I do not have on me making stupid mistakes. Not looking for anyones secrets to go fast, just want to keep all my parts inside the block this first year to get seat time. Thanks for any and all help Howard.

    Most Promods run 60 weight oil in the early spring or late fall or 70 weight in the summer. A lot just run 70 wt all year. You just need to preheat the 70 wt oil when it is cold outside. If you are using an oil filter like a System 1 then why strain the oil. The biggest problem with using old oil is the water (condensation) and alcohol contamination. I would not use contaminated oil. I believe that both Kendal and Valvoline make 60 wt and only Kendal make the 70 wt oil

    Mike, thanks for your answer. I am using the system one filter. would you recommend to use the royal purple and just let the alcohol and water evaporate in the sun and put back in, or just put regular oil in an change as needed? thanks again. any idears on plugs?
    Harry, So I take it you are volunteering for a crew chief position? I have all the water and ham sandwiches you can eat. Heck I can probably round up some gatorade if that will sweeten the offer.haha

    We run a TAFC up here in Canada with a MSD 44 and a 14-71 roots. The NGKB9ES or NGK6061-10 will both work, but when we switched from the Mallory Supermag deal to the MSD 44 we were told to swap to the 10's. The B9's have too long of a strap and it can actually melt to the center causing a lost cylinder, or so I am told. We tried it just with shortening the strap with a hacksaw and a file...very carefully, it seemed to work O.K., but if you're buying anyways, it's too much work just to save a few cents. The plugs we run now are actually the Champion plugs, I'd have to go out to the shop in the morning and get the number off of them.

    Both plugs will work in a ProMod. The TA/FC tend to use the 6010's more than the B9's. I like the B9's because like Nathan says the ground strap will melt sooner if anything is wrong and give you a fair warning. By the time you melt a 6010 it is all over.If you want to really push the tuneup then do it with the B9s and get a baseline then when everything looks good you can switch to the 6010s and push a little harder.

    Thanks for the help. B9s it is. I like the idea of the plug being a fuse to give me a fair warning on the tune up, plus I have quit a few boxes left over from my motocross days. thanks again for the help.

    Well I didn't really mean it in the way that the b9's could be a fuse, but i suppose you could look at it that way. When we tried to run the 9's with the 44 they even were looking not-so-hot (and by that I mean really close to melting the strap) even in the warm up. The Champion plugs we run have a short strap like the 6061-10's

    I'm surprised that nobody use's or mentions that the Autolite Racing plugs have a much heavier ground strap than the NGK's. I know in the nitrous world they hold up better than the others. I do like reading the NGK's better. The Autolite is a little different on reading.
