Because blown motors have such a broad torgue curve, the extra weight, drag, and cost of a 4 speed doesn't seem to be needed.

I have tryed a 2, 3 and 4 in my Blown 63 Outlaw Vette, all with a lencodrive. From what I have learned is that the 3 speed witht the right ratio it the best you can miss a gear change by 500 and never see a diff in ET. The two speed was better then the 4 speed, the 4 speed in 6 sec Blower car will not let you run the motor in the band long enought. You lug it or over rev it often. The ring is so low and the raitos area a mess to get correct. Good Luck

    5 speed

Well I'll Stir The Pot Here A Little We Have A Few Customers Who Run Aa-gas Out Here On The West Coast. These Are Kinda Like A Junior Promod. They Run 6.50's At Over 200 Mph.the Two Fastest Cars In The Class Have Switched To A 5 Speed. No I'm Not A Tranny Guy Or A Tuning Master But Just Thought I Would Share This With You Guys. They Are Only Allowed A 6-71 Std Helix Which Maybe This Keeps The Car In Its Optimum Powerband Longer.

I have ran several of the GoodGuys races and looked at that class. It is hard to slow down from 6.70's to a 7.60 (even if I was # 1 at Indy last year) my car really does not fit in any GG class as it is now. I was seeing what I would have to do to put a 6 71 on my car and make it work and I was running the 4 speed at the time. Then they only did a ninvit only to the AA Gas class so I droped it. I can see why they run a 5 speed. That blower is so small they have to turn the guts out of them and keep it in the power. I have spent a little time with Brandon Murry on this subject on the small blowers.

    4 speed

if its against the rules in p/m i thought it would be faster, the rpm drop woudn't be so big and the blower would spin faster.

    more gear

Dale Armstrong did it way back in the early days of Pro-Comp. 4-speed lenco and a quick change rearend assembly in his dragster. He won everything in sight. Afterwards NHRA limited the class to 3 forward speeds.

I thought that it was Billy Williams who ran the four speed briefly in the Williams and Kazanjian Donovan powered Britting Engineering AA/DA? Maybe both? Then mid season NHRA outlawed it. I think it was the same year Billy rollled the car and lost that trick injector for a couple races. Didn't they both run out of Torrance California and were often called Team Torrance?
