Stage RPM

    Can someone explain why alcohol funny cars are staging at 8,000rpm (approx.) and then pulling 10 to 15 degrees of timing at the swap feet. Why not control the launch with fuel, low gear etc. It seems pointless to rev them right up only to pull all that power.

    the term is "Instant Boost", the easy way was RPM, then blowers got coated & hand rubbed, the Monkey see factor, and several other things came into play, can't go backwards and "I think he's doing this", all factors are involved, without dead serious thinking ! Just look at guys like the Hool Bros. that do their own deal and you can get the picture without huge $ signs !

    Everything is better with rpm, except your valve train. Some funny car guys run a lot of GPM and don’t pull timing. It’s all about what your setup for and what your comfortable with. The higher you leave, the shorter the pull is to the shift point, the more boost you have, the better the clutch works, etc.

    A number of things come into play.

    Inertia helps snap the tire at the hit.

    If you are running a tall gear, a high launch helps get the car moving.

    In theory it should react quicker.
